    Multi-Feed or Motorised dish ?

I bought a DM500s clone recently, and have been enjoying having a play, but feel the DM is currently wasted as i'm only using for 28.2 E reception ATM.

    So i've decided to set-up either a multi-feed dish(es) or motorised dish.

I just cant decide which to go for!

Multi-feed appeals, as i like the idea of not having to wait for motor to rotate when switching between sats, but going this route means i'm gonna be limited to the total no of sats i can receive, and i gonna work out quite costly buying multiple LNB's/DiSeQC switch not to mention all that cabling.

Or do i go for motorised dish, which will work out cheaper, give greater access to sats and learn to be more patient (waiting for the motor).

The other thing that is putting me off, is that i've read that some DM500s clones aren't that great at driving motors, though tbh i only bought the DM500s as cheap way to find out what all the fuss was about with linux sat boxes, so plan to upgrade in the near future.

So guy's what do you think, Multi-feed or motorised?

Ive got dm 500s clone as well,I did exactly the same as you are doing at the moment, i used an old sky dish just to get the hang of it ,flashing it and setting it up properly (thanks to the people on here) I bought a motorised dish a month ago and to be honest its a different world, fitted it myself read all the stickies and any problems i encountered i just searched and found the answers. I have had no problems driving the dish
and its at the back of the house and my box is at the front and as for waiting for the dish to turn, you would have to be really impatient ,as an example ive just checked it now, to send it from nilesat 7W to hellasat 39E took 20 seconds.

In my opinion if you did go down the multi lnb route then later on you would want to get a motorised setup later, for what my opinions worth i think you just learn so much more and feel so much achievement in setting up motorised

The only problem i have got is i didnt find DK a whole lot sooner

I used to have DM500 until six months ago and USALS worked fine.

Cheers guys, you've convinced me to go motorised....

Have just pulled the trigger on a Technomate TM 2600, Frecarro Penta 85cm Smart Titanium LNB and already have all the braketry/cabling etc that i need.

Should all be delivered on monday, so all being well i will be installing it all next weekend.

I have a motorised dish myself but if I were starting over I'd get a fixed T90 Toroidal dish .
The main problem with the motorised dish is the wind moving it off arc.
I placed my dish in as sheltered a spot as possible but it still gets battered in the gales we get.
A T90 doesnt have those issues and there is no switching time between sats although it does have alot of extra cable.
It also allows multiroom feeds .
To be honest the only sats I watch are 28e,23.5e,19e,16e,13e,7e and 1w;90% of packages are on those positions.

like fano,i have a t90 dish 2.mine is set up on different sats,i can get from 19e over to 30w.If it gets windy where you are, this is the best way 2 go.

I also had motorised dish and I replaced it with T90 few days ago and I am happy with this change.

Wait time to switch between satellites, noise from the motor, just one TV, no possibility to rotate LNB per satellite and many other cons for the motorized system.

I agree. At the moment, I have 8 LNB's pointed to 39e, 28e, 23.5e, 19e, 16e, 13e, 9e and 1w. And my parents are happy they don't hear noise above their heads anymore

a dm 500 will drive a motor but they do have freezing issues and need a stable image to get the best. save a little more up and get a clone dm800, you can get them for ?140ish if you order from china and well worth it, hardly any issues with them and they are 10 times better than the 500 and im not kidding.

                            Sounds good mrga.
Is the dish heavy ? I was thinking of wall mounting it ,would you recommend that ?
Think I'll get one soon, they look the biz.
