Yeh good point. Its very possible. Im sure it could be done by the usual suspects but it wont be because of the 'gift'.

To be honest when I first heard about the Spiderbox I thought 'what a load of crap' but its actually not bad spec wise. I still hate the idea of a commericial 'gift' server though. This commercialises our hobby.

The fact that its so simple to use means that people dont really need to learn the sat hobby properly. Therefore it literally creates a web of noobs (as the spiderbox name suggests). This easy access means the tv companies will crack down much harder on our hobby!!!

All i can say is Spiderbox=bad news in the long run.

to be honest although the gift is on my box i seldom use it, the eaglebox acts as a server the spiderbox a client you could say i've already googled cardsharing
but no one knows exactly where the gift originates wether indeed its a commercial server or what, there has been no surgestion anyone could take a renewal after 12 months.
it maybe somehow be in the best interest of the supplier to devolop the server side of the spiderbox to continue marketing in the event the gift does switch off.

If indeed the box becomes 'fully featured' it will be a very good buy. However it could go the other way. They could start to charge for the 'gift' on an annual basis. This would not be good news

to be honest with you i can't see that i think the supplier is treading a very thin line at the moment marketing as a gift,
to carry on as a commercial payserver would bring to much atention and again its more than obvious who and where was running it

True but it can be indirectly implemented. I.e. some guy in China runs the server and the site for the 'gift' and the ****man gets backhanded payments.

Stranger things have happened. It seems that this guy is getting braver and braver as years go on so you never know.

You can obviously afford it then, alot of people don't have that sort of money to spend out atm, and to some even ?400 is too much. The Spider is a great box with very good connectivity (HDMI, 2x Scart, RF) as well as 2x CI and Card Reader for a very good price. My Dreambox 7000s is now in my loft as it's no longer needed.
