    Any good to learn with?

Just spotted these in our local B&Q for ?63

    HD Satellite Kit | ROSS

I'm a total total newbie when it comes to sat stuff but would something like this be an ok starter kit to get to grips with and learn.
What kind of channels would I be able to pick up with this kind of kit?

Thanks for an help posted. Just looking to make a start on the sat scene.

I'd appreciate if they would. I'm in two minds as to if its worth getting one or not.

you cant really go wrong for that price m8, even for freesat.
bbc hd/itv hd for the world cup. id say for a first dip into the satellite world its a very good deal and if and when you want to upgrade you could use the stb for freesat in another room or give the system to a relative. regards mdt

                  Thanks for the replies people.

Problem I've got is I'm trying to talk the wife into getting a motorised setup. She's moaning cos she's saying we already pay for Sky so why do we need another dish? Why pay more money out when we already get what we want...blah blah blah!

Was looking at this kit as a starter and then plunge in deeper further down the line. This sat stuff is completely new to me and had a Eurovox for 4yrs so never went any more technical than those.

                  Anyway,thanks again.

Hi Cronus, I dont have one but this is just Free to Air..It`s good value for HD But the drawback is the dish size..it will get you 19e and 13e but an 80cm would be preferable. There are HD channels on 19e but like 28e a lot are encrypted.

hi i,ve just bought and installed the Ross sd version from b&q and cant get any channels.Signal strength 55% quality 0% whether lnb is hanging loose pointing at ground! or installed on 'correctly' I'm thinking I may have a faulty box.For anyone who has one of these kits looking at the instructions does the lnb be fit on the end of the arm or on top of it

HI Jonathan, Ive just googled the above named set and the lnb goes in the holder on the end of the arm on the dish. I think your problem is that you are not on the astra satellite @ 28 east. Look at most of the dishes in your area as the majority of them should be pointing in the 28 east direction, set your dish to the same area and with a little up or down or slightly sideway movement you should pick up 28east as it is a strong signal. Close by are 19e and 13e which are also strong signals so make sure,by scanning the receiver that you are on 28e (I assume that this is your choice) and when you get the satellite you want, slightly loosen the lnb holder and turn the lnb slightly to increase the reception(this is called the SKEW) Hope this has been some help. Good luck.
