Sat Newbie jumped in with both feet :)

Hi guys very new to sat, have been playing with calbe for a while, mainly because the Internet is the fastest round here and also dreamboxes were cheap as chips!

Recently got hold of a sat system comprising:

    1.8m Segmented dish
    TM 5500 CIP
    polar mount
    ground stand
    18" actuator
    dual output LNB

Now I know the TM5500 isn't supported by the community anymore, however it does drive the actuatore natively i.e. no need for a v-box.

Now since I'm more grounded in linux boxes can anyone recommend a box that could replace this TM without the need for a v-box?

Failing that what would you recommend I replace the TM with?
I want to unlock as much as possible especially sports feeds and would also like the ability to Blind scan (for feed hunting), I am aware of the C/S route and the ban on discussing it on here but it would still be a nice option to have!

I have looked at the IcecryptS4000 and dreambox 7020s but am frankly puzzled as to what is needed/box / image / files etc. to make the absolute most out of my setup??

Any help rendered is truely appreciated!!

    cheers

Hi mate,18 inch jack on a 1.8 dish might not be good if your dish get's strong winds,i hope it's a havey duty jack @ least.Dual output LNB.i take your mean a twin lnb.If disec will move your dish from receiver hmmmmmmm, not sure if it will?????as iv always used 36 volts. It's one receiver to move dish & another to watch from i would say is best. You want feeds, now im the one to ask here.Receiver its got to be a Azbox as it will do 4.2.2 for you.Blind scan has been said to come on Azbox, but so far that's been bull, but its a good box all the same.

Hi Sid thanks for the response appreciate it mate!

This is the actual description of the actuator and LNB

        heavy-duty 18" Superjack actuator,polar mount,twin output 0.3 LNB.

        Any Good??

        How bigs ur frisbee?

an AZ box it is then any particular model you'd reccommend?

This is a pic of the back of the box!

Are AZ boxes Linux based? can they be Networked for obvious reasons?

        Cheers

        For the feedback mate !!

as far as i know all the satellite linux boxes
support a diseqc motor only, but v-boxes are
dirt cheap and they convert diseqc to 36v
without any problems and the receiver moves
the dish very fast via the v-box.i use the gbox v-box
and they are about ?39 and even cheaper from a bid
on the bay it's far better than useing a old box to move
the dish and looping to the new box

Yes I saw the price of the V-boxes as you say dirt cheap!

So its gonna be the way to go I suppose!

still trying to decide whetehr to go with AZbox of maybe a dream 7025s??

Ok So I have decided definately to go with a Linux box, as I understand it some have better support than others including Emu's etc.
Dream is the obvious (Ithink) leader in the Support department but pretty expensive !

Azboxes look pretty cool and with 422 compatability would be good for feed hunting!

the real question now is what boxes do you guys think have longer term prospects and which would be best for the darker side of sats??

Oh one last question the AZ box has a couple of models and not too different in price, if recommending an AZ which model do you think or for any other brand for that matter!

With your equipment , I would recommend a clone DM800 from a good source, or a VU+DUO. I set up my system with the Vbox outside with a meter. Just set up roughly on the Vbox and limits. Then fine tune inside on the receiver. You can count the numbers of Vbox between two Sats to work out the next Sat if the Dish is tracking correct.

OK so I took the plunge and did a deal with a guy on a certain auction site, I got an AZbox premium for ?180 , not the premium + sadly so no hardware blind scan but hey I think its a good deal as it will most likely make my HDX 1000 NMT redundant, meaning I should be-able to sell that for about ?120, if it works out right I should only be down about ?60!! Happy days!!

Any way now its time to start looking into setting up the hardware, dish etc.

and with that I would like to ask if anyone can recommend a good guide for this sort of thing??? i.e. dish positioning, actuator fitting etc. The arc is supposed to already be set up though I'm mych further north than the original owner! remmember its a 1.8m actuator driven dish, I know I need a v-box for it (any recommendations, perhaps a forum sponsor??).

I'm good a running cables etc. but the more technical side of this setup will take some reading up, failing that I'm in the Wolvehampton area, if anyone can recommend a good fitter then please PM me!?? As most of the guys I've enquired with aren't interested unless its a mini dish you need putting up!!!

As always any suggestions are most welcome!!

                  Cheers

Hi Sid thanks for the reply!

I'm looking at getting a v-box now though, save having 2 different remotes just to move the dish... unless the TM is capable of taking the commands from the AZbox?? but I can't find anything to suppost that! any recommendation on a v-box?

Also any idea on setup instructions for the dish??

                      Thanks
