    Protek boxes

hi as any-body got 1 of these and how do they compare against the spider-boxes as the spiderboxes only have like 1 year and protek are saying ( no time limit ),,
    the prices are not bad....
    Protek 9600 ip only ?149.99
    protek 9700 hd only ?279.00
there are many channs open atm..im only asking as i need to get my dad a system and its this or the spiderbox..but spiderboxes are getting better and better,,

Its difficult to compare as in reality no on knows what the future holds.

They both operate on a similar but not identical basis.

In terms of specification the spiderbox is better. In terms of functionality the spiderbox wins hands down imho. The channels available the spiderbox wins hands down at least for a year assuming the "gift" is completed. Just bought one today and dont have it yet.

The protek 9600 has been on the go much longer. I am fairly new to sat and understand that it went down for quite some time a while back. Since I have had it in November though it has been in the main very reliable.

Personally i think the protek offers good value for money as does the spiderbox. Heres a link to whats open on the 9600 think there is more on 9700 box.

    Onlinelist

mdt knows this box very well hopefully he can add a bit more.

whatever you do mate good luck.

Others may say linux boxes are best (I have 2 of them as well) but if your dad wants easy tv then they are decent enough boxes as long as you have an internet connection - but you need this for any decent tv now.

Spiderbox are excellent receivers, especially with the last update and full client support for latest CCcam, but you might also want to consider the Unixbox 500 if you are considering SD receivers, basically works like a DM500 so you have all the benifits of the Dreambox but you also get the support of connecting to the Protek server.... Opens a few more than the 9600 as well and is even easier than the 9600 to 'activate' with just a few button presses!, worth a look at least....

if your looking for a box with the least amount of updating ect then id say choose the 9600ip. with a fixed dish at 19.2/13e it will give your dad plenty to watch. imo for the outlay these boxs are the best available on the market today. regards mdt

I'm not going to get into another Spiderbox v some other box thread, but it's no rip off! Spiderbox does only offer the packages it opens as a GIFT and yes this will only be for the first 12 month HOWEVER to say it's a brick after 12 months is quite simply not true, it can work as newcamd server, it can connect to CCcam including latest version servers running 2.1.4, it's even easier to update than a 9600 via a USB stick AND you can get the HD version for ?159. I can understand why some may still prefer the Protek, but a Spiderbox a brick after 12 months? No way!

If you are looking at the SD side though as I've already mentioned take a look at the Protek Unixbox 500, it works like a DM500 using a custom Gemini image so you get all the benifits this gives including being able to run Cccam as client and server if you want, it also has FULL support and connection to the Protek server, the EXACT same as the 9600 but it's even easier to activate, no needing to load files via null modem cable, just a few clicks of a button and you are connected, simple as it comes!

the protek boxes have unrivaled support..and open pretty much everything!!!! i got mine 18months ago and paid 99 quid..now thats value for money..in the beginning there woz probs with freezing on n3 chnls, but these were soon ironed out..with the protek u buy your box and thats it...not free 4 12 months only!! you might as well buy a sub for 12 months with a sky deal than buy a rip off box..also protek works on newcamd as well for other servers,,

I'm bored of this one and not really interested in getting involved in another, this box that box fight, choose which you wish pauls12, I've gave you my honest advice, we sell them all I've no need to back any receiver more than another.

ive had my maxx1000 for 18 months and for the ?110 i paid for it was a bargain!. even so i have just shelled out ?188.50 for the spiderbox 9000hd so i hope its not going to be a brick after 12 months. i bought the spiderbox for feed hunting and connecting to a c***m 2.14 server for the uk based tv although when asked for recommendations i always choose the protek 9600/maxx1000. the protek 9750 hd is on my christmas list aswell but i think the 5000sd with 12 months gift is still a absolute bargain and can be a cheap fix for alot of people when digi completly goes. if i had the funds id get 1 of each box sd and hd versions but for watching tv ill always choose the protek/maxx. regards mdt

pauls would have thought that a 2mb line would have been sufficient in all honesty as the bandwith needed for the server doesn`t appear to be huge.

its very simple for every one ...no need to be clever ..

Take of Gifts or servers ....

who has better hardware CPU and s/w !??

By Cccam Newcamd and To masters Server with Newcad or Home streaming and many option Protek or Spiderbox!?

Proteck is old style box 1000 types like that In dubai like Max and others ..But Spiderbox is new generation with a lot of developments...

people who are jolose or have problems direct some business coming and says who is the best...

To be Honestly spiderbox no need nominate any others stbs...

But all others stbs like nominate Spiderbox to advertise their own Box....

No way Spiderbox has no Rivals in UK for the moment for non Linux Boxes...

I have prove all Big Copmanies has write to the manufacture to have this box with difet front pannels and new name ...but no one has success ,,Spiderbox in the Moment is MITH everyone like do not mater is competitor or Giniune Byers...When competitors could not have it they says is not GOOD...same think like a "Fox can not rich the grapes."

The 9700, I beleive it can be made to support newcamd although doesn't 'out the box', CCcam no and afraid is not likely to in the future either. They are great for what they do, but they are unlikely to ever add any 'features' to what they already have in the future, though you can make suggestions on their forum, but in reality I think it's unlikely to happen with CCcam.

Spiderbox supports newcamd as client AND server and supports CCcam as client only (working 100%) but of course you only get 12 months on the 'gift', so depends on what your main requirements are really.
