    Spiderbox 900/700HD

    Hi all,

I am thinking to purchase a spiderbox but I would like to know what is the difference between the 900HD and the 700HD
    Can someone clear me out?

    Many thanks!

Hi, it's the 7000 and 9000, just incase that was a typo or something

Difference is hardware only, 7000 has single scart (and HDMI of course), no CAM slot and no RF output, 9000 has twin scart (and HDMI), twin CAM slots and RF output. Both receivers have a single card slot built in which will work with most official cards in most encryptions.

Just make sure you use the right patches for the right model, they'll both clear the same things but they do have their own patches specific to the model even though the only difference is hardware.

Hope that helps... We're going to have to raise the price on the 9000 by another tenner soon because the price has gone up, still got a couple left from the last batch at the moment though so price is still as it was, imagine other suppliers will be in the same situation depending on how quickly they sell stock. Still got the free delivery offer in any case.

Not mean to hijack the thread but I am bit confused to what the difference between the card reader and cam slot because I understand their purpose to read cards to open encrypted channels so why a recevier will have cam slot and not have a card reader? Or is the card reader only external and any card reader inside the receiver is called CAM?

A CAM is something that your viewing card slots into, which then in turn slots into the receiver. It's usual to have one CAM for one type of encryption (Viaccess, Conax, Irdeto etc.) but these days you also get a whole host of CAMS that will support a number of encryptions, and so are compatible with a number of viewing cards. The CAMS we are talking about here are hardware based CAMS, physical products, but you can also get what are called softcams, these are software based CAMS and run in the receivers software and allow you to use the receivers internal card slot, this is usually (but not always) more for the Linux based receivers, it's still the same idea though, it's the interface for your viewing card. There are official CAMS which tend to support one encryption only and then unofficial CAMS which support various encryptions in one thing but have probably not paid for the official licence, so they work but they are not official. Some cards must have the official CAM or they won't work, a lot of cards these days don't HAVE to have the official CAMS to work.

A receivers CAM slots (the slots the actual CAMS fit into) and the receiver card readers are normally internal, they normally have a pull down flap on the front of a receiver that hides the card and CAM slots. There maybe some cases where you can't use the internal card slot for the card you have (it's not compatible for some reason - this is not many on a Spiderbox!) so you need to use the official CAM, or perhaps you have a third party CAM you want to use that opens a few extra channels for you, or even maybe you have two or three viewing cards for different packages that you want to use on one receiver....

You can see there is still a call for both CAM and card slots, but not for everyone, like with every feature on all these receivers it comes down to your own personal requirements.

Also when a receiver says its got an internal card slot don't assume this will 100% work with your viewing card, you'll need to check if it's supported, in the case of the Spiderbox it'll work with most cards using most encryptions, but not all receivers are the same.

Is Spider box open all channels on 39' in Bulsatcom package?

I beleive Bulsatcom is one of the packages yes, but for full package lists you are probably best to ask this over in the Spiderbox own forum or perhaps some kind owner here will post a list here of what it's opening.... Hope you can understand why that's not really something I can do myself

for me the 9000 is a first class receiver and the gift
opens a good selection, i use this box with the gift off
and it's even better and it's the easiest receiver to set up
than any other receiver iv'e used. and for quality picture and audio
and the tuner it's up with the best on the market.
for users who wish to use the gift it would be good if it could be
                  renewed after the year.
