    Which New Digibox To Buy??

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum and will appreciate any help!!

    Basically,

I want to invest in a new digibox system which uses ONLY satellite receiver or both, including cable if possible?? And it must have a hard-drive, minimum size around 120 GB. I want to only pay upto around ?200 for the box but this can be bought from anywhee, i.e. online, in-shop or on ebay etc.

I'm basically after one of those Dogibox's which allows you to view all of the channels. Im not sure if im allowed to say that .

    So please help, thanks guys!!!

    Forgot to mention:

It should also be able to connect to my router to allow streaming to PC and could have USB ports and could be HD??

I'm not really sure which the best one is because I know some people who have bought one and there's keeps crashing etc and have many problems, but I don't really want a lot of hassle like that you know.

    Thanks!!

Also, I have heard you can buy multi input receivers which allows recording one channel whilst watching another like SKY+ offer?? Please give me advice on that also. Thanks.

your talking about a dual tuner, there are some boxes out there like the dm8000 and others. Your better off having a good read through the satellite threads to give you an idea what your really after. People have different preferences and only you can decide in the end.

          Ahh, thanks bulld0g.

I just wanted to know, how reliable are these dogiboxes? Do they always shows ALL of the channels or do they keep crashing etc? Do they need updating/flashing/software updates regularly?

Satellite isn't as easy or as stable as cable. It's not plug and play like some cable boxes. There are some Sat boxes which come with "a gift" where you just plug in and the channels are there unscrambled, though i don't think it includes Sky although i could be wrong, how long this will last is anyones guess. Then theres the linux based boxes which require a bit of knowledge to setup and get running. You cn card share on these boxes but discussion is not allowed here so don't ask You can ask Mr. Google all about that.
As i said have a good read and see what other people have to say about their boxes. Afterall it is your money your going to part with.

              Yeh, thanks mate.

I'm sorry, but you will have to bear with me as I am a total newbie to all of this, I know somethings but probably not a lot compared to everyone else in this forum.

So do you have one of these boxes I'm talking about? I have read about the Linux ones, and they seem very nice. Don't all boxes come with Linux, i.e. Dreambox?? I know people with Eurovox...is that not Linux based? So as you said plug and play, what did you actually mean?

Would I actually need card sharing as I want a box with out a card??

And I would prefer a satellite box as I already have SKY+ HD but I don't really know if they are better; so need some advice really??

              Thanks again.

well i think only you can make the choice based on what you actually want from the box,but whatever you decide/cable or sat it will be some sort of c/s , its best to read read and read dont jump straight in,some peeps have purchased cable boxes and found out there a brick from day one due to nag 3,could have been avoided if they done a little homework first, and everyone will say this box is better than that box .only way to find out...FIGHT..as harry would say

Ahh, thanks mate. What is actually nag 3? I have read about it but don't understand why it is a problem? Does it affect cable and satellite? In your opinion, are the Linux boxes best? Thanks.

What's the point in forking out around ?200 or more, for Combo boxs that are not N3 compatible?

it is a new encryption that cable boxes cannot use and gives you a blank screen and the uk is in change over mode with no older boxes working.
