    Cooling satellite boxes???

I have put my Dreambox 800, SkyHD and PS3 into a TV Cabinet with glass doors, and noticed last night that inside the cabinet the temperature was extremely high.

So went to Maplins today to buy some cooling fans to put on back of cabinet, after explaining to the brain dead muppet what I wanted to do, he said wait here while I ask someone who knows about this, after about ten minutes he returned and said you are best taking them out of the cabinet, so promptly walked to other end of store picked up two 12v 4" fans and a 12v adapter.

I have now fitted them to my cabinet but not sure if I should set them both to extract warm air from cabinet, or set 1 to extract warm air and 1 to blow cold air in ????

get a laptop cooler to be powered by your DM, that will keep the DM cool, thats all that matters

put a can of beer in cabinet and when it explodes your beer is too warm like your dm ,its the same with a fridge fitted into a modern kitchen hidden from view overheats also been in a confined space, cool air going in also will keep things cooler with laptop cooler for dm.

just to note dm overheats in a room when no fan is used, what temp is it going to get confined.

If its in a cabinet on top a Laptop cooler you will need to put extra high Feet on the bottom of the Dreambox for to cool air to rise under it or the air will be forced back down, also its wise to raise the height of the laptop cooling pad for circulation of air when the cabinet door is closed.

A bit of trial and error and you will see the cabinet gradually getting cooler, put some higher feet on the receiver & raise the height of the cooling pad you should not exceed 42 degrees operating temperature of the dreambox or you will start getting glitches.36-38 is bang on for a good stable system around 36 for SD channels raising to no more than 38-40 when running HD channel content.

And before anybody says anything YES running HD Channels does rise the board temperature of your Dreambox and without proper ventilation or cooling the receiver can easily reach 57-60 degrees operating temperature especially during the summer months. Virtual meltdown.

On the 500-HD there is depending which image you use, you can pull up all system-board information Including temperature of different components on the system-board, peek loads, energy used etc

USB Cooler arrived today!! Not the best cooler the fans dont seem powerful enough, also the plastic base is so flimsy when i place the DM on it, the weight of it pushes the plastic down and the fans catch on bottom of cabinet. solved this by putting different feet on cooler.

Will see how it goes have left DM on a HD channel to see how hot it gets!

The DM800 has in PLi image system information, hdd space, temp, etc, but on mine it says temp unavailable.

Same as I got, it seems to be ok now with the extended feet on it, DM has been on a HD channel for over an hour now and seems cool enough, also the inside of the cabinet is cooler with both fans on the back!
