to be honest ..this is what i call diy .

how are you going to allign a dish if you dont know what sats to allign to ..

    its 28.2 degrees east astras 2a b d .
    also eurobird. 28.5 .

but just go 28 .2 degrees east .

if you have probs then look to pros to set up ..

but its still worth a go yourself first/ best of luck

    best of luck

the best way to start is to try and look at another sky dish in the area. this will tell you the rough direction at least

Hi paul, unless the tree is well established ie very large and sturdy, when you do get the satellite there is a good chance that wind will shake the tree causing interference or loss of picture completely. As nialler says look to other dishes in your area as most will be on the sat. you were on originally. There is some satisfaction in doing the job yourself but know that there are other sats. @ 19 east and 13 east which have strong signals and you may pick these up which will give you the appearance that you are on a sat. but not the right one. It`s all trial and error without any basic equipment. Good luck.

with a 43 cm dish , m8 if you are in england and have clear line of sight . normally elevation is between 20 and 40 . on the side of the dish . i always use meters m8 .
never done it guessing if you know what i mean.

im in the north and would find it pretty har to pick up hotbird ..but maybe you could mistake a bit of 19 .2 .

                with that size dish

never mind get rough idea of other dishs in area ..

clear line of sight is a must.

you will get it with a bit of patience ..best of luck.

Of course its handy to have someone on the end of a phone or calling from the window who can watch the meter on the Sky box from the TV screen to.

Im stumbling throught this and u lot must think im an idiot well maybe but not totally. So i have a meter, and a compass although the dish id fitted in the general direction of south east.Is there any guides on this site that could walk me through the processof lining up my dish to 28.2 elevation between 20-40 ?
users guide for the meter is not too clear so could do with some help in aligning up the dish.

elevation is 23 degrees approximately m8..not 20-40....if its an old style raven dish-or triax dish..set the elevation on the dish so when you tighten the nut...it looks like its smack bang between 20 and 30 degrees on the scale on the dish....then just swing the dish and have someone looking at the signal meter on your sky box...services..4..6..and tighten up when you get the best lock...simples!!

not being funny but if its 23 degrees what you say ..bearing in mind i use a horizon meter to install and allign my dishes.

and dont guess ..then 23 is not between 20 and 40 then ?
