Hi all...this was going to be my 1st question...yesterday i was about to buy a spiderbox then came across this site and read that 10 page post on the spiderbox, man that was a good post with darkman chipping in his tuppence worth.
How longs that gift going to last ? will the box become a paper eight in 2 years or less ?
Now the dreambox of which i've heard of but know nothing about seems like, according to here be the best buy but how
many channels would you get ? trying to decide.
Being a newbie to dreamboxes it all seems a step up from sticking a pendrive in my tmate and loading the softcam.

      Need to read more....

Well when gift runs out after initial 12 months, you will still have a fully functionally hd pvr receiver which can share in all types and share out newcs.
Forget the so called gift and judge the stb on its merits.
          Full pvr
          Pause live tv
          hdmi/2 scarts/rf
          2 usb slots.
          2 cams/1 card reader
          Exceptional hd pics.
CCcam and newcs work 100%, though you can only share your own personal card out through newcs.
Play avi's from your laptop or from usb stick/hdd
The lists endless, may not have the sharing capabilities of a dm and add ons etc but it does have an awful lot to offer for a cheap HD stb.

Cheers man-appreciated.....when i buy a car or motorbike i take ages to decide but always end up with the best for my money...just cant decide.
I read about dreamboxes 3 years ago but they always seemed difficult to set up but now seem easier, the spiderbox sounds a top box and those channels are tempting, very tempting infact but need moe research.
The post i refered to i found interesting because as someone pointed out it did get a bit out of hand but everyone who posted acted in the most part like adults.

Indecision.....is in the head but the aka

I realise that having had a TM for 3 years and that
well paid for its self....i know it works out cheap. But
i would prefer 1 that has decent watchable TV ect
                  for more than 1 year.....

Remember you still need to add a HDD or memory stick for a PVR to work...so there is added cost there....Although i got a email from Aria today and they are selling external HDD's for ?64.99 ! And that will give you a huge 2 Terrabytes of storage..So loads of HD recordings available there mate...

can i throw a spanner in the works and ask if the spiderbox has a decent epg? that is a very important factor when choosing a stb.

Nope this is one of the few things that let it down slightly, they are an excellent box for an excellent price for the features you get, but the EPG is just now and next, which to be fair is the same with the standard Dreambox EPG (or any Enigma2 receiver such as VU+) BUT they (Enigma2 based receivers) do have options of EPG plugins which will allow you to download/import EPG data for many providers including all the usual ones, the EPG plugins will depend on the image you choose to use, but they are available and they do work very well..... Sadly this is one option you won't find available at the moment on a Spiderbox.

Well said....The EPG is preety crap on my Spiderbox, But saying that its not any good on the Technomate TM600 or the clone DM500s either. I suppose a clone DM800 is the cheapest option if you want HD and a good EPG ??
