Hi, First post here, so go easy
Just want to try and confirm something

I have a source that is allegedly pushing out these boxes and dishes
apparently he installs you a HD box, new dish, and all channels inc HD are available for 12 months, for just over ?300
Thereafter another fee of ?120 for each year after the first runs out. This aint no scam, as the guy doing it has been running a shop for the last 4 years, so its not like he had being doing a runner with peoples money
I have had my doubts regarding this, as i thought sky TV was heavily encrypted. However a work colleagues friend has had this system running now for 5 months or so.
He says he gets all channels, albiet Box office.

      Any truth in this?

he's installing a Dreambox or other type of sharing receiver..

Sky isn't hacked it, he shares his card to other users..

All he has to do is remove his card from his server and your setup becomes freeview only.. Or Sky find out and cancel his card..

                That sounds more feasible

I will try and find out some more info, as far as i am aware, the box he installs is a proper sky HD box, but will need to double check that
are these dream-box receivers capable of receiving HD ?

I do not think it would be a good idea considering he is effectively selling a box with a payserver as per OP's quote:

Thereafter another fee of ?120 for each year after the first runs out.
This thread will have a short life if it is taken further down this route.

Some people that sell these services don't even share a card.. what they are doing is affiliating and raking in the cash... just takes balls to the wall advertising to make them a good deal of cash profit wise and then an affiliate cut from the resell of a year under their own account

Take any online server and take out a year sub , then go and buy yourself some DM500's then just set them up everytime someone buys one of you using your original account as an affiliate.. so not only do they add extra themselves to make a profit on the box and gift sell, they also make about 35 quid for selling a year sub to someone under their account.. then when they say recurring 120 a year there after, that is making them money too by affiliating again

Just buy yourself a cheap DM500s and set it up and sustain it yourself. Will save you a fortune and stop these leeches making money from you on a rolling bases

Basically mate, if it sounds too good to be true it probably will be.. For just over ?300 for a fixed dish set up is a rip off.. These guys have a habit of changing the passwords on the box and not telling you so for any slight problem or upgrade you have to go back to them.. Then they'll charge you ?40 to look at the box..
