People who have Sly HD AND a secondary sat system.

How do you feel or justify having the full sly hd and also a secondary sat system?

I initially got into the sat hobby some years back because I wanted to see all the Manchester United fixtures. Got an 80cm dish and an ART card. Think the card was about ?100. Those were the days, ART had just about every match.

Then went to a Digitalb card. To be fair, they had a good few 3pm's, and with that and my cable box, didn't miss a match.

Next was Diablo cam, motorised, then this time last year, a Protek 9600, which has served me very well. That and the keys for 1w, again, never missed a match.

Got the full Sly system back in Feb with all the half price for a year codes that were doing the rounds, and am very happy with it. HD is fantastic, and makes the picture on my Protek look like I've got cataracts. Now, when I started back in the old ART days, it was never an intention of mine to "rob" TV, or get something for nothing (though my trusty Kryptview served me well for a good while), but purely to see untelevised matches. I would probably subscribe to Sly or somesuch if they had TV season tickets.

Just this last few weeks I was looking to go HD for my motorised sat system. Was looking at the Proteks, Spiderboxes etc, but decided on the Dreambox 800 (and please, this is not a thread about my box is bigger than your box, or why pay Murdoch when it's all out there etc). In fact, my finger was over the enter button as I was about to order. Always like things set for early August to iron out any issues.

But I had a look on the Man Utd fixtures, and those being televised, and I think the first one not on Sly or E**N is something like 2nd October. As I would not even view the potential Dreambox until then, I wonder why I still have that itch to BUY IT NOW.

I have even been dreaming about setting the damned thing up!!!!!!!

How do others view this whole hobby? and how do you justify buying expensive new kit? I think it's like a treat for me, so money isn't a major factor in if I buy the box or not.

Just want others views on the whole thing really.

I think first match of the season is against Newcastle on a Monday night on S*Y. 1w still open sports channels so you may get some games on that. Stick with your Protek.
    Keep calm carry on.

m8 you sound just like me.

I stopped going to Old Trafford about 6 years ago when the Glazers came in.
I got a second hand 80cm dish and put it on a scaffold pole in the garden and balanced it between two chairs pointing at 42.0e for a channel called NTV. They showed EPL FTA then.

I was buzzing when here I was watching football at 15.00 on Saturday afternoon when all my mates and neighbours had to make do with the radio.

That was me hooked on Sat TV, I then had a 100cm motorised dish fitted and had a technomate 5500 with matrix cam and was always zapping around different channels to see what was on. Two things make me smile now, one was I remember zapping to a channel called Taquilla XY and thinking wow look at this some guy is getting a b*ow j*b then the camera panned out and it was another fella !
      That channel got deleted.
Another time my wife had a friend round from work who is a real Christian and spends lots of time doing things for the church when by mistake I put a XXX channel on, we have not seen her since.

Any way since them days I have spent well over ?1000 pound on this hobby.
Countless receivers, most of them I still have under the bed or in the loft.
The dish on the motor got replaced twice, once for a 110cm and then after the wind sh*t me up I replaced myself with a 85cm fracco dish.
I also added a 64cm triax with multi lnbs two years ago.
The prime though is my 2.4meter channel master dish which I got to view EPL on showsports. The idiots have lost the rights so now dish is doing nothing. Can't try 26.0e because of fence.
I use a db800 in bedroom, VU+Duo in my play room and a Cuberevo in the living room.
I have a sky hd sub with espn and mutv.

Finally I spent ?26,000 18 months ago on having a extension built, I thought got to have some where to watch the football in peace.

The thing with me is I will never miss a United match but I also like to watch other EPL games especially at 3 on Saturday just because you are not suppose to.

Forgot to mention when the wife starts I just say "look remember when I use to go the games and leave home at 11.00 and get back at 23.00 sh*t faced" what would you rather have ?

      Go on m8 get a dreambox ;-)

Well wooper and others, sounds a bit like me! Have S*y HD but wanted to see games not shown on S*y. I was also into SW radio years ago, so this was sort of the next step.I can see different tv from all over the place, look at feeds (mainly football ones when available) and see football from EPL and different leagues not shown inthe UK.

The only differnece is, wait for it, I'm a CITY fan

Enjoy the season and hopefully there will be Saturday 3pms to watch for all of us no matter which team we support.

Hi wooper. In short.. it`s a bug. I dont have motorised set up but 4 static dishes in back garden. The bug is finding that sat you`ve seen listed or picking up feeds and wondering what the hell`s going on here. All dishes connected to 8 way diseqc switch allows coupling channels from different sats together rather than waiting for dish to turn. Currently on 28e (hers dish) 42 and 45e, 16 and 13 or 19 can change that combo easily, and 1 and 5 w. Luckily, I can get from about 60e to 30+ west.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the boat.

The wife was only saying last night we are a little short of cash this month (hmm, and my bonus last month went on a shopping trip for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Am soooooo tempted on that dm800, I will take the plunge friday when I get paid, sod it.

I recall about this time last year, was out for a drink with a pal, he still cannot get his head round how I can watch these games that are not on sat (ie, read sky), and is in a bit of awe about it. He was telling his pal, one of them real know it all types. He informed me (!!!) that what I need to get is one of those dishes from B&Q, move it about (oh yeah), and there is loads of free footy out there. I really could not be bothered saying anything. Just nodded in thanks.

Strange the ideas people have not into the hobby.

you wont be dissapointed mate, did you go for a clone or original, as id recommend the clone just for the value.!

they are top boxes, also when you get it add a 2.5" sata hard drive, the recording is fantastic.

also great storys lads, im to hooked.

m8 I'm only 10 minutes from bowlers, we could have met up but I have two flipping kids party tomorrow and then a adult party in the evening. Not one of those sort of adult parties !

Be careful at bowlers, do not buy any dreambox from anyone offering a special gift. The place is swarming with Trading Standards and guys from FACT.

I use to go in Grax a few years back, guy called Bill use to run it.
I know when I went they never had any 1.2mtr dishes, it was either a 110cm televes dish ( got one of him ) or I think it was a 130cm ISS dish. I bought one of them too but sold it ebay a few weeks later.
