    decided to move dish higher

    moving my dish
Decided after a lot of thought that my dish has got to be moved so i can get the most of the new 1.1m dish and my new dreambox 800HD thats on its way.
Decided this was the best place to move it to.....got the brackets up today but its the old height thing that kinda bothers me but not enough for me to leave it.
Just looking for a few tips on working up high, tips on getting the dish and motor up ect.
I've always tuned mine via that window to the left of my dish now i'll need to use the little scanner i bought.
Do you think that room to the left will get in my way of a signal.
Where it is just now was always easy to jump up and check anything out now i'll need to do a more pro job so once its
    up its up.
The dish weighs a ton so i will need to get some assistance.

the window shouldnt get in the way, whats wrong with where it is?, height makes no difference, its a clear line of sight you need.

where it is now looks fine, although id have it on t&k brackets with a strong scaff pole.

you can use a piece of rope to take the weight of the dish and motor then once you have it on the pole its pretty easy after then. you could mount the motor in between the t+k or just above the top bracket. just take your time and you should be fine. regards mdt

The buildings opp are getting in my way now i have a
bigger dish, tried moving the pole up as far as it would
go but missing some sats now where i had them before,
if it was higher it would be clearer on all sats.
Me posh.....dont think so ma man....its called building
yourself up the property ladder, thats my 5th house
all bought before prices went sky high i'm a low paid
coucil worker who scrimped and saved to buy that AND
              gave up booze.

The ladder was a hair brain idea i had to get onto the
roof then i realised i'd crash through the tiles into my
              garage.

The reasons behind moving it.......good signal on my due
west sat--5w-right up to 30w is good strong but east
is crap. It was better with my 80cm dish now this is
a 1.1m dish the east signals got worse.
I thought maybe i was missing the satellite arc but if my
due south is 85% 30w is about the same but 28e used
to be 90% now i'm lucky if i can get it and when i do it's
65%......any suggestions.....one thing about freesat is
the F1 racing has fri practice and saturday warm up.

So you thought you would draw one as its much safer

should have drawn a safety net too

if you are losing sats on 1 side then check each possible cause. pole 100% plumb, dish centerd on motor spigot, correct motor elevation setting. once you know these are correct get the best possible signal on intelsat/thor@1west checking h and v txp,s in the high and low band untill its perfect. its harder to align a 1.1m dish than a 80cm one but you should get a minimum of 30e to 30w unless you have l.o.s obstructions really close. take your time and you will get it right eventually! regards mdt

You see when i started a few years back i was advised to use 5w as my true south even though 1w is true south so i've always used 5w. But i'm going to go for that today. My lat was 55.9 and i had it set to 55 changed it there to 56 and now on 28e from 66 channels yesterday and 70ish signal as it tunes in now its at 625 channels and 97 signal...so feeling good.

The dish elevation guide on my dish is like maxed out, all it would do now is go higher its set as low
as it goes infact its crap compared to my last dish.

when you do put it up mate try leaving the dish itself to last ieut the motor and dishmount on the pole and bolt the dish on last I also put a car exhaust clamp on the pole under the motor to support the weight while swinging it around.

hi dick, i find it easier to assemble everything on the ground then once the dish/motor is on the pole its just the l+r and u+d to align everything but whatever method is comfortable and most of all safe is ok. regards mdt
