new box required but which is best for me?

    hi all
like a lot of people i have been using a technomate for the last few years but that has all come to an end now and i have options of what to buy spiderbox, dreambox or cablebox as i also have cable. i know in any case i will need to be connected to the internet which is on a different floor which makes it more complicated,i have read quite a few posts and i just dont understand half the terminology,so do you think it would save me a lot of hassle to buy used model via online auction which allready has software loaded or will i still have files etc to load? i've been told i can get homeplugs for internet link but i have also seen something called a bridge. i could do with some good simple advice please.

I"d try and read as much as possible on forums to get a better understanding of what its all about as some of these boxes can be a bit daunting if you dont know what you are doing but there are plenty of blokes that jump in at the deep end and you can read their posts and learn from them.what you actually buy in the end depends on your viewing habits. as regards the internet connection my hub is on the 1st floor and I just run an ethernet cable down the corner of my hall and around skirting. It works a treat is cheaper than home plugs and you can get them off the shelf in long lengths I bought a 20mt one (most of its stuffed under the floorboards)

thanks for the reply,it all sounds daunting to me i really only watch sport so i'm now wondering if i should stick with the technomate and take out a year on tring or digitalb but the costs are almost the same as subscribing in the u.k,i have streamed a couple of football matches on the internet but its not the same.

Here is a good starter box :

Joking aside linux based boxes are the way forward, i swapped over to linux from cards and cams, the tehno babble makes it all sound very hard ect. The best thing you can do is read up on them (i did) after a few weeks collecting all the info i could it took me 30 minutes to set up my first 1... a dm500 clone. Only you know what you are capable of ...

I have a tm600 you can update the img via usb ... later img updates are via lan > blue button ( on the remote)

These boxes are best used for cs (can not say more on this forum) not a lot open on keys , patches ect with the role out of N3.

i've been looking at the price of the boxes and they seem cheap enough but i dont really understand the terminology img (image?) and lan which makes me think these boxes are beyond me.
