yeah I use a cheap SLX meter to help find the sat (usually 1W) get the highest reading on it then disconnect it and use the boxes on screen meter to fine tune it as the SLX does soak up some signal.then I scan.

If the signal is strong enough you should be fine,
but why not just download some channel settings from the blue button menu and then use them to tweak your dish,

You can always delete them later if you want to do your own once your dish is aligned properly

I always use a small Portable TV and one of my many receivers, Take it outside set it up with a Length of Coax, and you can view the Tuning Process as you are doing it, its about the only way to get 100% snr without buying an expencive sat-Fander.

A cheap Sat-Finder will only get limited results and may not get the full list of the satellites transponders, as the sat finder will Buzz anyway when it finds as little as one transponder.

If you can ! use the TV and Receiver method outside for a far better installation.

agreed, cheap sat finders are shit. you cant beat the tv and reciever,, they are the best sat meters available.

The clue is in the name, 'sat finder'...Thats all cheap sat finders are for - to find the sat. They're no good/not meant for fine tuning.

either use the link Dave-H posted or most sat dealers sell them as long as you realise they dont identify the sat(about ?150 to get one that does)

all the sat finder will do is tell you when you are on a sat nothing else. you will still need an active transponder in your stb for your target sat and if you dont get a signal it will probably be because you are pointing to the wrong sat.
