    Sky tv installation

After 6 years of cable I am having to fork out for my sports channels like a lot of folks. However they are putting up a dish for me next week and I am not taking the phone line.I did not realise until this morning that you have to have the sky box hooked up to a phone line.I called the mob who are putting up the dish and told them this but they said for another ?25 they will sort that out by fitting something to the phone terminal I have in my flat even although I don't have a live landline.I have gone a long wat around the houses (sorry) but what is this connector? and is it possible for them to connect sky box without a live landline? many thanks.

They're talking shit, it's not a connector -But you pay a one-off ?25 fee for a NPL (no phone line) install.

Don't want to sound like a stooky but what exactly is that? Is it just a case of sticking a wire in the phone connection?

As far as I'm aware you only need a phone line connected if your having multiroom installed(two sky boxes in different rooms)unless sky have changed their T&C which i dont think they have.So if I was you i'd just get them to install the system and if they mention phone lines again question why you may need it.

Thats incorrect... When you sign upto Sky you agree to having the STB box connected to landline for 12months (though most get unplugged immediately after installation/card activation) as the boxes are subsidised and its Sky hope you'll use the premium interactive rubbish to pay for the subsidy.

This has always been the case, it's not a recent change to t&c's.

But you can pay a one-off ?25 fee for an NPL install, which essentially lets you opt out that part of the t&c's.

All multiroom boxes must be connected to the same active phoneline because you're getting a second discounted subscription so Sky insist on this to prevent multiroom boxes used elsewhere.
