just some basic info on sat please?

basicly i'm a newby and i want to know, if i bought a satalite dish set it all up perfectly pointing to the right satelite. Is there a bow that would recieve all the Channels sky movies etc. including HD channels that will work the now and hopefully for a long time. p.s Nagra 3 has hit virgin media here i dont know about satallite or anything so just asking for help. thanks !

There is no satellite box which does what you want it to unless you call sky and get a subscription. Satellite TV is more of a hobby and is far more sophisticated than cable tv.

How about a sticky to inform us newbies how to get set up and what equipment to buy/avoid etc as I guess there will be quite a few of us cable refugees searching for answers over the next few months.

Actually Bulldog although the info is sort of there don't you think one thread to help us new fellas get started would be useful.A sort of idiots guide I suppose.It may save some of you more experienced guys from answering loads of daft questions over and over again from the likes of me.I don't want to sound ungrateful and think that generally this is a top site.

Use the search forum tab. This stuff has been covered so many times

well the answers are all there if you search. What's the point of spoon feeding people ? Forums are all about helping each other out, and about being a community.

Whats the point of putting the anwsers in one thread. People will hit and run and that's no fun. If you want a question and answer scenario, it's available , but theres more too it than that

We try our best, we dont get paid to write any guides.. Its something we need time for.. I have already written a few guides for a generic use when i had time. There are many people here who have used the available information here and on other forums to get started with the satellite scene so the information must be there.
