well.. if your dish is a sky one then it will be pointing at Astra 28.2E.. so you could either get a freesat box which will give you BBC ITV etc.. or you could get a dreambox, but you'd need to do the cardsharing magic to get encrypted channels...

or, what i'd be tempted to do is.. get the dish moved to one of the european satellites and get a plug and play box like the Protek.. this would get you some sports, movies and the ~~~~

I have a friend who is pestering me about the dreamboxes but as he is not very pc literate I am trying to avoid setting him up with a dm500 so a box like the proteck could be ideal for his situation. I know I could probably find the answer by Googling but how much are these Protek boxes and are they similar to the Spider gift boxes?

They are similar to the SD Spiderbox in the sense that yes they are connected to a gift server. However they have been about for quite a few years in one guise of another from Envision to Max1000/Protek.

I would look at the Protek Unix Box 500 as it has the best of the Protek gift and also can be used as a DM500 also so best of both worlds.

Pricing I wont go into but there are quite a few selling them and seem to be good value for what you get.
