    confused oldie

hello all,ive been after a twin tuner pvr for a while now and im going to buy a motorised dish as well to pick up as many satellites as i can but i would also like to view `normal` tv through it as well,eg..tyne tees,ch4 etc,can anyone advise me do i need to buy a combi pvr with a sat tuner and a terrestrial tuner or can i buy a twin satellite one and will that pick up most of the channels? Please forgive the stupid questions but the more i read up on this matter the more confused i get.As you will have already guessed im not too clued up on new technology and the skins, emus and cards are way beyond me,at least for now,im considering a vantage or a nanoxx for a reliable box with a good picture quality and more straightforward to use.Any pointers would be great,i live on the north east coast of england,my tv is a sony lcd ,and im planning on a one metre dish.regards..grumbles

when you do a scan on each satelite it will give you all the channels, so if you scan on 28.2 for uk viewing it will give you about 20 of each terrestrial channels so you select the bbc1 tynetees, itv1 tynetees and so on thats for your region and place it in your bouquet, a twin tuner box like vu+duo with pvr would have 2 sat tuners and would allow you to watch 1 channel whilst recording another.

Cheers wilf,so i would be best off getting a twin satellite tuner,as long as the missus can get her coronation street shes happy, but i would like to get loads more channels like the premier league and nature documentarys, and tinker around with these gui`s and stuff,i think these machines are great nowadays,i remember my first tv recorder it was the size of a suitcase. The vu-duo looks popular and the support seems really good for it,i think i`ll go for that,i just hope i can work it ! thanjks again,regards...grumbles

you ll be fine, and all the support is here to get you going in the right direction, we just dont do the cs side of these boxes if thats where you are heading, but the imaging and so on is all here.

Thanks wilf,no im not interested in that cs stuff just being able to get the box to work in whichever way i want by changing menus etc will do for me and of course all the extra channels will be good as well, one more daft question so whats the reason for the combo pvrs then?If all the sd and hd channels can be picked up on the sat tuners why the terrestrial one, does the aerial on the roof not do that? And believe it or not one day i hope to be of some use to other people on the forum! Now im off to find out what the hell a picon is..regards,grumbles

You wont be watching much footy wise soon if you are not going the cs route.

Newcastle will still be in EPL next season.

I hope so manic,it would be good ,i love the derby games, can i ask you,if you were going to get a box going on picture quality and reliability only, what would you go for, bearing in mind i only have about ?700 and that has to buy a motorised dish and cables etc as well, its just i think that all this cline, picon, images, cards and cams etc is going to be too complicated for me and my good lady would probably string me up by my testicles if we ended up with a box that i couldnt work, maybe for later on i could get into it,im still getting taught how to use a laptop and i have a book of computer terms that i always have my head in so im getting there but slowly you know,im really tempted to just go for the vu-duo,would this work out of the box or would i have to start loading images etc first..cheers
