    a-b switch or diseqc switch?

is anyone using/ used a A-B switch or a diseqc on dm800 for a fixed dish and motorized?

have got my sly dish up now and both wires come in from different parts of house to the box. sly dish front of house and motorized at back.

so would a A-B switch work ok? or an indoor diseqc switch

    cheers for any info

As far as I know if you're running two dishes to the one box then you should be using a diseqc 2 way switch. I suppose you have your reasons for running a fixed dish and a motorised dish (maybe you can't get all sats from the front) but it is usually recommended to have the diseqc switch as close to the dish as possible (covered /weatherproof switches available) but this would be more for a fixed dish with multi lnbs as to reduce loss of signal though I have never found any great loss in signal having the switch at least 20 feet from the dishes and indoors.
I don't know what an A-B switch is ,short of Googling it, but you should be okay with the diseqc.

thanks for reply pat. yes mate the motorized as problems with signal on 28.2 (couple of trees, so got sly dish on front to get round the tree problem). but was hoping use same box for the two dishes. and just switch between the two? not to fuss how would do it via box doing the switch or manual switch. just dont want be messing swaping cables for the relivent dish i want at that time.

As I said I was not familiar with A-B switch but looked at your link above and I think you have to physically switch to change dishes.
From watching dick b's replies during my time here on DK I can say that he is far more experienced than me. Except to add that with the diseqc switch you can put say True Movies beside a channel off another sat on your TV channel list and flick through as though the channels were from just one sat.

yeah the A/B switches are a mechanical push button switch and are fine for switching between 2 dishes I dont think there should be a problem if one of the dishes is motorised but I"ve never tried it. as to diseqc switching I"ve only used the inbuilt ones in monoblocks so have no experience of them.

thanks for your replies chaps. i posted similar in the dreambox forum (with it being a dm800 i have) but not a reply!

yeah thats right button A for motorized and B for fixed etc. im not to fussed about that as i will 90%+ of the time be on 28.2. and the rest of time on motorized for football etc. so a press of a switch every now and then is fine. just the issue of will it effect a motor...

and i have heard that some diseqc switches struggle with this type of set up. and top range ones like spaun (expensive and hard get in this country) are better suited for it.but are normally sat on the pole or close to the dish? where as my two cables come together behind the box. which made me think of the A-B switch....?
