    Protek 9600 or 9750

Now that Protek gave brought out the 9700 & 9750 receivers*

How likely is it that the 9600 receiver will be made redundant and have the server access taken away ?

I'm really in a dilemma on weather to get the 9600 or 9750 receiver I'm not bothered about HD channels .*

I need an auto update machine as I'm not overally technical. Uploading software and images I really wouldn't have a clue .

    Thanks for any help*

firstly welcome to dk!. there are no guaruntee,s in this game but the dark forces (as far as i know) have no intention on dropping support for the sd recievers which connect to their servers , be it the 9600ip or the unixbox.
as long as its technically and financially possible these recievers will still be supported. regards mdt

Hi, I'm new to satellite stuff and the forum. After a bit of research I've decided to go for a Protek 9750 box (rather than the Spiderbox which also looked like an interesting option). I was thinking of buying it over at skywise (?289.99), but then I discovered you can buy it at a german site: satking dot de for ?254 + postage (around ?225 + postage).

Does anyone have any experience buying from Satking? Do all Protek boxes (no matter where you buy them) come with access to the free gift? I guess the purchase at Skywise comes with support, but is it worth it? Are there any other sellers of these boxes that are recommended and have good reputations?

Appreciate the help. In terms of my satellite setup, it hasn't been installed yet, but I am going for a 88cm motorised system. Install including satellite, motor and labour etc. I have been quoted ?280, does that sound reasonable?

      Thanks

280 quid is a bit steep, im a installer and charge ?200 for the same set up. if you shop around you will save some money

depends on the parts being used and whether its a straightforward install or not but for a run-of-the-mill set up i agree that ?200 to ?220 is more like it. regards mdt

              no gift mentioned

ive just noticed that it doesnt mention anything about a gift
on that german site. I personally would stick with skywise - the support is excellent

you can get all the support you need on here, skywise are basically charging you for support and imo are a little to open/blase concerning the protek and the way they talk about the boxs its as if they are running the server and designing/making the boxs. never pay for support!!!! regards mdt
