I then installed the small 4kb Software key, then asked to save, Y/N Y then saving data please wait.

So now after doing that, I do not see any difference. So what have I actually achieved?. Any information about these patches or updates I would be pleased if anyone could inform me by email Any information gladly received.
I added the channel and broadcaster details to the spiderbox HDsoftcam I posted, so check the channels listed , like say diema and nova on 39e for instance

you should also be getting the "gift" channels from the spiderbox server if you have turned on ethernet and registered it

if you have patched correctly and have latest softcam installed this should give you access to a few encrypted channels here and there but as your spiderbox is new with a broadband connection you will with the latest patch get a lot of $ channels. I no longer use a spiderbox much but others will advise on whats available at the moment via ethernet. What satellites are you getting at your location?
PS I"d remove your e/mail address.

      pps.only just seen"ramjets"answer after I"d posted.

This is something new to me,'gift channels' + 'turned on Ethernet' ? and registered it. I dont know what they are yet. Please bear with me and let me know, I am new here.
I assume I must also connect to the internet with the ethernet or am I wrong.
The only sats I am on at the moment is astra1 19.2?E and eurobird1 28.5?E.
When I get my other dish 2.1x 1.95 offset set up, problem is the ground is solid with ice here so must wait.
I am going on a break today, but will check for any information. I have downloaded the latest update from yesterday, but will wait till I return and by then I might be a little wiser.

Thanks again to you two experts. I will get there one day.

yes , connect to the router and gain an ip from it , then turn on ethernet working and register the box

the lists that myself and dick-b provided give you the channels and satellites opened by the 2 methods , 1 is ucas using the softcam , the rest are opened for 12 months using the "gift" (if the box is new and unregistered)

so use that combination to open channels on satellites that are not 28.2e , like 19e for instance

there are quite a few satellites and channels opened by both methods , so the more you can point a dish at , the more you will receive and open

the latest patches are march 2012 and are in the thread labelled "mandatory spiderbox patches"

the gift channels wont work any more as your box is too old but there werent any gift channels on 28e anyway

any problems with scrambled channels on 28e is between yourself and your c line provider so cannot help you there

that link I posted in#13 is still working if you unzip then open the folders the instructions are in there.
but I"ve never needed it so no guarantees.

Hello again, Now that I have an ethernet cabled around my house, I am trying to register the hd 9000. By default the mac address was bright in auto mode, in manual the other ip address then became live, I didnt enter the address is this automatic from the ethernet connection?
Should I just accept and register my box.
Also is the latest 9000 patch still back in Nov 2011 together with the softcam or is the one from 13th march also for the hd 9000?
                          best regards.

the mac address should be the same as the one on the label which is either under the front flap or on the internal motherboard when looking through the top vents

if you have dhcp as auto the router will allocate the spiderbox a local lan ip address, the host spiderbox address will be the actual router address

so the router and gateway address may be say 192.168.000.001 for a netgear router, and the router will allocate say 192.168.000.002 or 003 or 004 etc for the actual spiderbox address. this spiderbox ip address will NOT be the same as the router address, as the last 3 digits will be different

the subnet will be 255.255.255.000 which is standard

the 1st dns may be the router address, and 2nd dsn may be blank, whereas I have put google public dns and reserve dns in mine in the dns sections

Hello Ramjet, thanks again for the help. I did ask whether the latest patch for the hd9000 was the one from last Nov together with the softcam?
I did type in 1111 in accessory>network and opened the key edit which I assume is the secret menu. The ucas was on. the i went back to network and into Ethernet. Type is ON Connection Status connected. Then I went down to register which shows the keyboard enter sign, but after pressing OK nothing happened,l I had expected to have to enter something to register it.
                                Regards.
