the copyright thats being talked about is the copyright that the FA own its illegal to broadcast the football to anywhere if the FA does not give permission the copyright that they own is the barclay's premier league rights that is what the case is coming down to , there may be ways round this but the FA WILL BE ABLE TO PURSUE PEOPLE in court for breach of copyright and they would win the status quo is still the same as it was before this ruling

But as Firestorm correctly says, Albania is not an EU member so the EU court ruling does not apply to Albanian cards. So while you could (probably) use cards from any EU states in any other part of the EU under the terms of the ruling, since Albania is not an EU member, Albanian cards are still restricted to the geography for which they hold the Albanian copyright - which does not include EU countries.Comment

Your being far too simplistic here !Hi. can you NOT understand what the EU judgement was about. It has nothing to do with copyrights or who owns what. In the EU there is one rule for EVERYBODY not just for SKY/EPL etc. If you allow 3pm matches in FRANCE ITALY etc etc you HVE to allow them in ALL EU countries. It is the same if you want to drink French or Italian wine , you dont have to go to France or Italy to drink it. Also what has America got to do with EU laws?? SKY was trying to tell the pub lady what she can and cannot watch - under EU laws this is ILLEGAL and UNLAWFUL. Regards.
The EU judgement was indeed nothing to do with copyright and therein lies the problem. The copyright laws still stand, exactly as before. The fact of the matter is that content providers have full rights to dictate exactly how THEIR material can be distributed. This matter cannot be resolved without considering copyright, which the EU are unlikely to do because of the ramifactions to US based (and others) content providers who insist they keep ALL of their rights to distribute how THEY see fit.
Where do you think the majority of TV content originates ?Also what has America got to do with EU laws??
The EU will almost certainly do nothing to prevent US content owners from retaining all rights and that includes the right to insist that providers limit transmission of material to certain geographic regions only.
btw, the majority of large media companies, incl Sky, are US based. This, of course, doesn't mean they can ignore EU law when operating in the EU but it does give them substantial lobbying powers to dictate how those laws are drafted and operated.
I think you need to read the full judgement again. Although the EU agrees she has the right to purchase equipment anywhere she chooses they certainly did not agree that she has the right to publically display copyrighted material without the consent of the content owner.SKY was trying to tell the pub lady what she can and cannot watch - under EU laws this is ILLEGAL and UNLAWFUL
As things stand at the moment, its perfectly legal for you to buy a decoder & card from any EU country but the legality of actually using it to view anything the content providers wish to restrict is in doubt. For individuals this is unlikely to be much of a problem but anywhere that intends to allow public performances (pubs/clubs/shops etc) will almost certainly face prosecution for copyright infringements.
If you really want to mess with sky, then it might be more appropriate to start proceedings against them for restricting their services, in the UK, to boxes provided by themselves only rather than opening the market up to any sat box manufacturer using a standard slot-in cam unit. For some unfathomable reason, Sky in the UK seem to of got away with this !Last edited by TheCoder; 7 December, 2011, 17:19.Comment

Hi. If you buy a valid box and card anywhere in the EU and it is legal to do so how can you be prosecuted for using it??????. The EPL cannot dicate who can or cannot see their silly logo in the EU. Like i have already said if you allow one country to watch the 3pm matches you have to allow ALL countries to watch them. This is known as the SINGLE MARKET. As for the USA when it sells products to the EU countries it has to comply with EU regulations and laws not the other way round.Comment

your going round and round in circles here and you really have no idea on what your waffling on about. as already pointed out this comes down to copyright law and no amount of you saying otherwise will make it any different.Hi. What Rubber Duck is saying is correct...There is a difference between broadcast rights and copyright rights. The EPL will have to go to court again and the whole process will start again.
The current EU ruling is for Broadcast rights, and they (TV Providers) do have the rights to broadcast anywhere in the EU, what they dont have are rights to show are things like this - EPL Logo for a foreign provider such as Nova cannot show the logo in England without the EPL's permission. This will go to court again - undoubtedly - They will win hands down in this country, then it will go to europe and I think the providers will win.
So status quo really and the ones who win are the solicitors and barristers.Comment

Hi. Yeah for sure that solicitors etc will win either way. My hunch is that the EPL will lose, logo or no logo. Then next season all 3pm matches will be stopped throughout the EU and we will have to go to ALBANIA or TURKEY to watch them.... Lets wait and see. Take care.Comment

Unfortunately, the whole thing is far bigger than just a few football matches or, indeed, just TV which is why its unlikely that the EU will start interfering in such things.Hi. End of the day, like it or lump it, the EPL produce a product that they wish to control. If you dont agree with that control then you have the right not to purchase. Trying to get around those decisions by applying an inappropriate law really doesnt benefit anybody except lawyers and journalists !Comment

Stopping 3pm games merley de-values the rights.
Overseas birders won't bid as much for them.
Let's be honest there are 2 reasons why foreign cards are purchased.
1) Cost is cheaper than sky
2) Sky don't show 3pm games. (which is what UK Market wants)
EPL should allow sky to show 3pm games there reason is poor that people attending games will drop. I disagree
If EPL start messing to much revenue will drop, meaning clubs get less. The clubs will get pissed off and could breakaway and sell there own rights
3pm will not be band but something to do with copyright law will happen. Only sky will have permission to show EPL logo in the UK and the UK logo will be shown on every broadcast.
This will stop pubs but private viewing won't be effected, difficult to catch.
Sky don't care about private households they have other programmes for that Market. They do care about the commercial Market pubs can get charged as much as ?5k per month for football.Comment

I thought I'd revisit this thread.
1) Tring lost their rights in the end because they couldn't look after their cards, in fact Albania is only the 2nd place on earth where rights have been removed (after N Korea)
2) The PL logo now lives in the bottom right of the screen during all live broadcasts shown outside of the UK
3) Its not the PL who don't allow 3pm matches to be shown its the FA. They (quite rightly) know that if PL matches are shown on TV at 3pm it will directly affect attendance at lower league football. The only way around it is to do what the Germans do, Bundesliga on a Saturday and the other leagues on a SundayLast edited by opsmonkey; 22 July, 2013, 01:21.
