    Spiderbox - why the ethernet?

why does the spiderbox need an ethernet connection?

i'm looking at getting one, but it's not easy to get an ethernet connection behind my telly. is it really required?

and how would i renew the gift after it expires?

yes its needed. you could use a wireless bridge or homeplugs to connect to router. you can put a c line on after 12 months.

just to put you in the picture a little more, spiderboxes shipped after last August/Sept no longer contain the gift package that lasted for 12 months but now work on service+(similar to the Protek service) which apparently has no expiry date as such.So in an ideal world it would last forever and a day,However whether that will be the case is anyone's guess

ok, but why does it need the connection? does it have to connect to some server or something? or does it stream the channels from the net?
asking, cos if it streaming, i'd be worried about bandwidth usage.

also, i understand that i need to learn more about this stuff, but it's a bit difficult reading bit parts in threads, has anyone any useful links where i could read up about cs and c line kind off stuff please.

I'm afraid google will be you ally on this subject but to answer your earlier part of the question, bandwidth is minimal if noticable at all and the reason for ethernet connection is self explanatory

It does not stream, it receives data ie keys.
