monoblocks work best with 8ocm dishes Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com is the best site for line of sight,dish size info etc:cheap sat finders can be useful but the best way for 1 off setups is to use a portable tv near the dish and use the on screen signal meter of the set top box.sat finders that tell you what sat you are on will set you back ?150 upwards and are not really neccessary especially if working on or near ground level.there are various set up guides around.try this one of mine it covers fixed and motorised setup for TM standard boxes but the info may be of help what ever box you use.if useing a monoblock and use 13E as your target sat the 2nd feed horn should be to the right when viewed from behind the dish. and if useing 19E to the left.
if you cant get it to work 1st time you may have to switch inputs around in the diseqc 1.0 settings of the stb.Its easier if you do you initial set up with a single lnb then switch to the monoblock.

i use an origional cyfra dish in ireland and it picks up 13.0 easily and its 60cm
and a sly dish for 28.2
ive the two dishes running into one reciever using this eBay.ie: GT DiSEqC 2.0 2 x 1 way Satellite Switch (item 150549950434 end time 15-Feb-11 23:38:26 GMT)

id try mount the dishes on a wall or shed as windy conditions will more than likely move your stand unless its well reinforced

Thankyou both for the advice.
With the mounting I would like to try a tripod setup just so i don't really have to drill into the wall again as the back of the house may start to look like a pub (plus i dont think the mrs would be too happy). The main concern was about the fence, will it make any difference even though the line of sight will clear it? I think as it will be a backup box (mainly for sat footy) Im not too bothered about it moving occasionally and just manually realligning. Im just trying to get out of the drilling and mounting really.

no mate i doubt the fence will bother ya once theres some distance between them and its not very high

A good place to check would be here. It will not only give you the direction from google earths point of view from your house to the satellites you want to try for, but elevation, azimuth and skew.

If im going to go with the tripod setup and a 60cm dish would you all reccomend just going for a single lnb? and manually altering the dish if I decide to move off Hotbird?

No, easier to get a monoblock LNB with a 6 degree offest so will point at 13e and 19e at the same time, plenty of 'em around. Don't go moving your dish each time as it will become frsutrating, that and you'd have to retune your receive each time.

Will this setup work ok with a Spiderbox?
I know they are generally prepared for a motorised setup.

Should do. The spiderbox is more than certain to have disecq as a function to switch between the feeds without you even knowing it's happening. Good luck.
