Hi konatist, I just googled it and a post of 2 1/2 years ago put the retail price at $800 and was selling for $400 and regarded it as a class meter but it does not support HD which may be why you were lucky to pick it up.
If you are into sat it would be a nice piece to hold on too for the accuracy alone.

I,ve been using a rover sdm2 since 2003 and still going strong and it brings in 28.2/19.E/13.E and others and the hd channels come through just fine even after aligning the dish on SD frequencys.

if its a 6v battery you should be able to use a battery pack from a rover tda meter which is basically the terrestrial version of the sdm although a little older. just find out the spec of the battery and check out replacement battery suppliers as you will save a great deal of money. regards mdt

You could try MDT (Martin Turner Direct) in london as they are the official Rover stockists and repair centre for the UK
