As a sat/cable guy these are new to me (are they the same linux boxes available on fleabay for about ?50 ?) What is currently regarded as the best hardware, do they have hdd options, what channels are available, do they stream glitch free or constantly freeze, and are subscriptions invoved - if so is a starview situation likely where you pay your money and the provider dissapears? Any advise appreciated.

I'm the same as you my mate, always been sat and cable guy! I've recently purchased 2 mag 250's which I'm using in my holiday home in belek, Turkey.
The box has full hd capability, it is very easy to use. If you were thinking of buying one make sure you get a portal set up first for your channels mate, it's the same as a line and loads every time you load up the box. My box is working tip top over in Turkey with a sh#t internet speed of 6.5 meg max. Any more info PM me, might have some more info for you mate!

Guys could i just remind you that any discussion relating to any services on these mag250's should be kept to PM as they fall within the same rule as Card Sharing does on a satellite or Cable receiver.
Any Technical talk or how to setup without breaking the rules is fine
