    Beginners guide

Hi, I was referred to this forum from someone over on Techwatch (cheers Kopend, not sure what your user id is over here)

I'm completely new to the satellite scene (other than I had Sly Digital about 6 years ago), but used to have a Starview until Virgin upgraded to Nagra 3. I've been recommended to get an OpenBox - is there any point going for the 9 or should I get a 10? Looks like a difference of about ?100, so I'd rather save money unless it's vital (just moved house!)

What channels will this box get me? Would I be able to get the non-televised football games they have in my local pub, and also the normal Sky TV package (for the mrs, I rarely watch any of the rubbish they broadcast!)

What dish will I need? I'm in the south east (just east of London), will an 80cm motorised dish be sufficient? Are there any brands to go for or any to avoid?

Is there anything else I need? Do I need any cams, cards, or subscriptions? And what CS server should I sign up to?

Apologies for these questions.. I suppose this is the sort of crap you get all the time

Im a sat noob too (was an old Eurovox cable guru) I just got myself an S9, my motorised dish is going up on Sunday.. Ive opted for a Triax 88cm, but Im sure an 80 would also yield great results down south..

100 pound difference??? The ones Ive seen the price difference is only a few quid.. The S10 is smaller, and doesnt have scarts.. I opted for the S9, just incase I ever need to use scart for some reason or another..

As a noob, Im doing lots of reading, Ive so far found it might be a good idea for me to first load a premade system dump onto my factory fresh box, just to save the ball ache of setting it all up myself, ... Then I'll be investigating all the "purely for educational purposes" things I can do with it..
    :-)

Cheers, that's answered one of my questions then (definitely going to get an S9 because I'll need Scarts until I upgrade my TV )

Let me know how you get on with your install, I'd be interested to see how it all goes. Out of interest, what did you pay to get the entire system all together?
