openbox s10 wont recognise external hard drive

hey guys im trying to hook up a 50GB hard drive to my s10 box, but its not recognising it

the harddrive is 2.5"HDD in a enclosure hooked up with a usb cable, it powers on, but when i go to the media tab in the menu the hdd settings etc are grey out

when i insert my 2gb usb stick it finds it with no problem

    any advice?

Assuming its formatted ok, its probably not getting enough power from the USB port, you could try a shorter USB lead as sometimes that helps.. Or it just might be your 2.5" enclosure is not compatible, but I bet its a power issue...

Yes maybe a power issue. You need to also ensure that the drive is formatted to FAT32.

        Hard disk problem

I am using a 250Gb USB formatted on my PC to NTFS with no problems. Try re formatting the disk on your PC if you are unable to format on you OBox

hey guys iv sorted it, it was due to lack of power going to the hard drive, iv pluged in a nokia charger into the hard drive and re connected it to the box and it now finds it,

only problem i got now is when i record HD channels (TS mode) and connect the hard drive to my laptop i can oonly view the recording with no sound playback??? any reason to why this is happening? i can record allright with the other mode but its not working for the HD channels

Google for "Videolan VLC Player" download VLC Media Player, install and try using that to watch your HD ts files...

              HDD

does it have to and external hard drive powered by mains?

will a portable HDD not be useful which is powered by UBS?

You can use any USB drive, either powered by USB or by a power adaptor. You can also use a USB stick. It can be NTFS or FAT32 formatted. If you have a problem just use the S9/S10 to format the drive.
