i have an openbox s10 seems to be an origininal box
the box will not come out of standyby also will not sync i have tried over 10 different f/w and several loaders but still wont flash im using an rs232 direct serial connection no usb connection involved but this just wont flash erom brings up many error stb memory error also set upgrade mode error tried different loaders new and old
is it fair to say this box is bricked or is there any way of fixing this

A how to guide on how to fix a corrupt firmware image in the OpenBox S9 Linux based satellite receiver. Even if it seems bricked. Box does not respond or displays On? If your box does not respond, or just displays ?On?, there is a good chance the current firmware on the box is somehow corrupt. This could be from a number of things. To solve it, you will need to flash it with the firmware again, but as you can not access it, you may think the box is stuck. You will need to use this tool, connect a serial lead to the box and follow the instructions. Hopefully it will bring your box back to life. please use this tool to upgrade your Openbox S9 HD if the box appears to be dead

if the box was flashed with an oddball flash that has a different bootloader section,you may have to replace the flash chip.
I would check to see if the rs232 port is actually working by using a terminal program and see what the screen says when you power up.If the rs232 is working the pc screen should show app init ok.

take a screenshot of the error message(shift print screen keys on pc)then paste into paint and save as a jpeg.
You start the loader then when it says sync you turn the receiver on in the back.

have many errors coming up on erom read raw error stb error
it will not go through to next stage to flash

Are you trying to flash using a serial to usb jobby or are you using and old desktop with port? When you click for the flash to begin is the box powered off and then switched on as quickly as possible using the rocker switch at the back as sometimes it is just a matter of timing.

yes using dedicated serial com1 port no usb and clicking next when powered off tried various combinations of times but still no luck funny thing is i had it working once before last week switched it on in the morning then it was dead again dont know whether to give up as spent hours on it now still no luck with it

If you haven't already have a read here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-cable-233298/ from my own personal experience with this the only software that would work for me was the March firmware think it was the 15th or something, keep at the timing thing also.

I would try different loaders.There were some that had no ini files or eromclient.abs, everything was in the .exe loader.
Some loaders let you select the individual files to load.Or maybe even try to do a flash dump to see what the receiver is loaded with.(dump data mode instead of upgrade mode in loader)
