    S10 Com Port

    Hi

Ive picked up a openbox s10 faulty. The red light is on all the time and Ive read up plenty about that and got the pvr hd upgrade tool as well as reanimator and others.

The problem is I dont think the com port on s10 is working as someone has had a go at it to the point where the com port ribbon plugin on mmain board has been melted/butchered for what ever reasons so dont know which way round the ribbon goes, have tried both ways with no response from com port.

From some of the internal photos Ive seen some com ports ribbons have 4 wires this one has 3 and it seems that someone may have pulled the 3 wire out of its plug and so the sequence of the 3 wires connecting to mainboard maybe mixed up.

Has anyone got a wiring schematics for the s10 so I can try and check if wiring is correct both on the connector as well as board or any help for fitting new connector.

    Regards

    red

s10 either works or is completely dead no lights.
Just a red light on is probably a hardware problem and has nothing to do with the flash.

      Hi

Its just on the red light. Dont know the history of the box. I just cant connect to it via com port.

Hardware wise dont know what it could be, is there any pointers.

I've never seen a red light on a S10 box and I've done quite a lot.

I'd say the box is goosed but hope you can prove me wrong.

          Hi

Have been reading up loads since yesterday when I recieved the box. I bought it as a sort of a project.

Ive spent most of today trying different loaders and firmware but no joy. Tried the loopback test but seems the com port isnt working.

Like I said before someone has had a bash at it before and for some reason all the plastic connectors for the com port, reader and display seems to have been melted out, cant really see why someone would do this.

Did mail the seller and he said thats the way he got it and he got scammed as the guy he got it off said it needed a flash but he couldnt get it to flash either.

Will persevere a bit longer before sacking it.

Any other way of testing comport. Any idea where pin 2 and 3 and pin 5 go on main board.

          Regards

              Hi

Its the first one v3/current one. The com port has the 3 ribbon wire but the order is different. On mine the 3 wires are in the pins in 123 order with pin 4 empty in the photo its got gap at pin 3 and pin 4 is used.

Im presuming pin 1 and 2 on mainboard must be pin 2 and 3 on connector and pin 4 must be ground.

Just gonna get wires out from connector and try combination as per photo.

              Regards and Thanks

2,3,5 are the pins on the db9 connector
                  2 and 3 are data,5 is ground
                  I have v2
BTW the flash label on the 1st pic is wrong, those are the 2 ram chips (64MB ea)

                    Hi

On the db9 connector the pins are correct but Im not sure what the pin sequence on the mainboard is.

With multimeter the first 2 pins on mainboard from back of box seems to be ground, so last 2 must be data but in what order.

Tried a few variations according to photo and no joy although did get further than before as I got the below message on one variation.

                    Syncronising STB........Done
                    Please reset target!

                    Set stb memory error
Click "Back " to try again

This seems to be a timing error but I still couldnt get any joy on the "loopback test".

Il give it a shot on the pin connections according to my meter readings, if someone can confirm which pin number on db9 connector goes where on the board.

                    Regards

If your getting Syncronising STB and Done You are managing to connect to the box.

                          Keep trying the upgrade process.

                          Box powered off

                          Load bin file
                          Tick Bootloader
                          Hit Next

                          Then Power On theBox.

You may have to make many attempts leaving varying times before powering On the box somewere between 0 and 2 seconds.

I did one recently that was stuck on ON and it took about 10 atempts but eventually broke the loop and flashed the box.

Do you get done coming on instantly or after a few secs and also if and when it connects do you get a progress bar.
Do you restart the loader at each attempt or use the back button.

                              Regards
