Recovering a dead openbox s10

Im going to try to recover a openbox S10 thats been bad flashed. Will a usb to serial adapter work as i have no com ports on my pc with it being newish..

Also if the persons box was a clone and he tried flashing with a image thats not clone safe could it be a goner no coming back.

Reflash with clone safe sw.
Not sure if serial adaptor will work, does for some people.

usb adapter doesn't work for some people.
I would make friends with somebody that has an old pc with real comport.

old pc's are often cheaper than the usb to serial converter.
