    openbox not compatible with motor.

    Hi all,

I am after a bit of advice. I have a motorised dish with a dark motor, a few years ago I had a TM500 reciever but had not used it for a while so I decided to get an Openbox S11.

I spent hours yesterday trying to set it up only to find it would not move my motor, out came the ladders reset motor manually and it was working fine put TM box back in and worked fine. Emailed Openbox retailer and he said it is a compatibility issue between openbox and motor, openbox does not have enough power to move motor.

I was after some advice on which box to get? I want an HD box, something relatively easy to use, that will work with my motor and capable of cardshare.

Any help will be appreciated, there seems to be that many different boxes on the market and after the openbox debacle I thought I would ask for some expert advice.

    Thanks

well, the problem here is that the tm was opensource and the open is closed source from what I remember

so depending on budget and clone or not may decide your purchase

but for a closed source box much better than the openbox I would suggest the blade BM7000S or a spiderbox 7000 or 9000 HD

other than that then maybe a dreambox HD model or a vu

      What motor is it?
I have Openbox s9/s10 and they move my motek motor and a tm2600 motor perfect.

Thanks, don't want to sound ignorant but can you explain what the difference is between opensource and closed source is please?

I considered a dreambox because it seems like there is loads of support for them, I am not adverse to a clone box as long as it works and is fully compatible.

opensource software is used on linux types of boxes like the dreambox and vu, usually enigma 2 on the HD boxes and many apps and plugins and other adaptations exist

closed source uses a patch like on the blade or spiderbox or openbox and so cannot be "tinkered" with by the average user

Technomate 5402hd are very good for moving dishes, i have one & it's very simple to set up & move dish.

Most technomates tend to be good for motors.

It depends on your S11 model.

The ones that first came out did have a lot of problems, but the latest models are lot more stable.

these are from the same stable as the blade, but the blade has better software and menus

both do the same jobs however

Went out today and bought a spiderbox have started setting it up and it is so much easier to use. Just need to update firmware and softcam then it should be up and running properly. Then it will be time to do some google searches to see if I can use it to its full potential. I am learning but slowly everything seems like goobldygook still and I have been dabbling with sats for years now on and off . Going to try to learn properly this time not just enough to get by.

I have had four Openbox s11 recently from two different suppliers and three had to be sent back because the box shut down and reboots every time you send a command to move the motor, apparently they don't seem compatible with the TM2300 motor.

There is a thread on this issue in the Openbox forum.

Hi all Purchased Alsat dark motor - the one with metal gears - couple of weeks or so ago and have been trying ever since to get working with DB 800HD se. The motor moves to different satellites (at most a couple of times) and then I get the "tuner fault" show up on screen and 0% signal showing. Have returned tuner from unit and in the meantime dug out the old 800HD and when I tried the motorised dish on that blow me it's doing the same!! Have I got a faulty motor (drawing too much current) or is the Dreambox 800 range just not capable of driving these motors? Thank goodness I've got access to another dish with multi LNB set up!!! Thanks for all help/advice given.
