    S11 picture quality ?

    Hi,
I've just got an openbox s11 and to be honest I'm very disappointed with the HDMI picture quality.

Viewing BBC HD the picture isn't in the same league as the one from the sly HD box.

I've tried connecting the box via scart and by the phono leads but that is also very poor and doesn't seem to be in the correct format on the screen.

I also noticed that the scart doesn't auto switch the TV to AV like every other scart connection I have ever came across.

I've tried all of the different picture settings and none of them seem to make much difference.

Maybe I'm being over cynical of a ?60 box but I'm just wondering if any of these satellite boxes can produce a picture that is anywhere near the picture quality you get from a sly HD box

    Is yours the same ?

is your tv detecting the picture as the correct format? 1080_50, 1080_60, etc.

I ask because a few firmwares would say it was 1080 but tv would say in reality the openbox was outputing 576. That was noticeable in high bitrate channels, as in the usa there are a lot of high bitrate feeds and those firmwares began to stutter with high bitrates.

      Hi,
Yes when the box is connected via HDMI the TV detects the correct format.
I've tried all of the different formats but there is no real change in the quality of the picture.

I did notice that when I had the 1080_60 set that the picture was jerky choosing the 1080_50 got rid of the jerkiness, the TV obviously doesn't like the 60 hz settings.

Had a good mess on with the settings again today with better results, had to change a lot of setting on the TV to get a better picture from the S11, it seems a lot better now, and I also managed to sort out the format of the picture when using the scart, it's now displayed on the screen properly, so to be fair my initial criticisms were a bit harsh.

The scart socket still doesn't auto switch the TV to the AV which is a bit disappointing as that's the reason I went for the s11 over the s10.
