dead openbox S12

hello in here atm im new and still try to learn

i did look around before post but found alot about s10 and so on but not s12

so here it is i have a openbox/skybox S12 3 days old and its dead, it start to freez all channels and now its dead i wrote the company i buy it from and he told me to read in som other forum and get som help ... 3 days old box no help

okay i did read that i ned a cable to flah the machine but i cant find any where to get that cable only on ebay and im not sure its the right one...

another thing is how and where do i read if its a clone or orginal box i have here...

reason is that ppl talk about update firmware so i have to know what to update it whit


so first where to get cable and what programs to use

I've done S11's with S10 recovery so it will probably do the same with S12.

Try the attached file but read the word doc first.

You will need a Null Modem cable and if you dont have a serial port you will need a usb to serial adaptor http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PL-2303-US...item35b952f41c

The one in the link has a prolific chipset and the prolific driver installer is in the downloads.

okay thx thats the program to try out whit will respond when i get a cable if it works on S12

I think the s12 uses an oddball rs232 4 pin connector? or is that just the inethds12?
an s12 shouldn't die by itself,sounds like it was a heat problem.

it have 4 pin on its back yes and i just ordre the cables i need to it..... its just not good enugh if it have a heat problem

there is a red light in the left side of front thats it no start up or any thing

If its brand new and after 3 days has died on you shouldnt you be pushing the seller to exchange rather than him fobbing you off.

If you reflash wont it give him an excuse to void the warranty.

red light not a good sign.
reflashing probably won't even be possible judging from people with s10's and red light.
That usually signals a hardware death in the receiver.

Completely agree. The worst thing you can possibly do is try to fix it yourself. If you bought it inside the EU, the consumer protect laws entitle you to a full refund, including postage costs.
However once you fiddle with it, the guy you bought it from could just say YOU broke it.

I own 2 S10HD, one is fine, and one keeps on dropping the signal after a few zapping, even after test to the reseller (the box went fine he said).
So i can't speak for granted, but both are originals.
My tests confirm that some FW have same symptoms (anonoyousX) and that other work but cannot find all channels...
I think i will only keep the good one, and leave the other in the closet, buying myself a VU+ or something...

given the fact that most of them work ok its small chance the odd one may not work. i am now happy with my s10 but i wasnt happy couple of months back. certain clines kept my box rebooting so once i changed my cline to a different server & few fw upgrades the box is now almost perfect. i get 1 reboot every3-4 days which i can live with. s10 defo the way for me.

Schematics for 9-pin D-sub to he 4-pin connector at the back of the S12.

i'd like to know where to get one of these too as my skybox s12 is dead due to me not knowing it was a clone and then updating it with the wrong firmware
