Hi all sorry for posting in this section........
It's just that the amount of post in the openbox section about boxes crashing after a channel update.........
Not sure if its user error on behalf of the box owner...or something to do with the channel list.....(believe me i'm not pointing any fingers)
It's just a fact it's happening....
My point is to Aj & sattv5 i have always used you channel list & never had a problem with them crashing the boxes i had ..(many thx lads for the work you do)
maybe the reason my old boxes never crashed is because i deleted the old channel list before updating to the new one...
Any thought's if this could be the problem members are having ????
or could you advise in your post's to tell members to delete the old channel list before updating
regards P & DComment

It was with regards to pressing factory reset to get all his favourites in the correct order, when he switched the box back on it stopped working on certain channels and so did the other one he had even though he never factory reset that one.

I have no problems in advising for members to delete the old channel lists before updating.
Honestly though I dont really think it makes that much difference because the channel list doesn't really get deleted it's just hidden from the menu so is still there.
If you delete the channel list and then go and reset the box to factory your old list comes back again. Ever since I started updating both the default and user databases in the channel list I have struggled to get a box to brick even if i pull the plug on it while it's updating the channel list. The box will reboot count to 100 show the skybox logo and reboot, all you have to do is keep pressing menu button and next time it reboots it will boot straight to the menu where you can reinstall the list correctlyComment

Many thx for the fast reply sattv5...like i said i have not had a problem with any channel list's from you or Aj (& again i say this for all members on DK) we all thank you & Aj for the work you do..
Again as listed in the post i'm not finger wagging....just trying to find out why so many new members are having the same problem with the box crashing after they update the channel list...
Maybe i have answered my own question
(new members)...
Like i say new members user error....."It was with regards to pressing factory reset to get all his favourites in the correct order, when he switched the box back on it stopped working on certain channels and so did the other one he had even though he never factory reset that one"

I can fully understand where your coming from P&D, the last thing we want is anyone to brick there boxes. the sky boxes are strange tempeamental beasts
taking the F5 as an example, people will update there channel lists and pull the wire straight out the back of the box as opposed to turning off at the wall.
When they plug the box back in often causing a power surge and the box doesn't start up, its then assumed its the list thats caused it.
The way things are wrote to the flash in these boxes is also strange, no matter which firmware you use everything is wrote in the exact same place.
say for instance you forgot to backup your gift and installed a different firmware old or new your gift will still appear i the updated firmware as it wasn't deleted (hidden) on your old firmware before updating.Comment

Totally understand mate...as i say i'm not in anyway or fashion saying its the channel list's ....i have been using them for 18 months without a problem....
but i guess as the boxes get cheaper & cheaper = cheaper shite components so this might explain the problem's
Just glad i updated to the VU+ 2
Many thx for your understanding sattv5

Updated list here - http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ml#post2118977
Only a small update, hopefully it will solve the issues some are having with setanta.Comment

Really appreciate your channel lists. As with sattv5's list, they're invaluable. Thanks. Hope you don't mind me mentioning though - not that it's a major issue - but thought you might like to know just in case you're unaware - I think the recent tv channel reshuffles have also affected some of the radio channels i.e Real, Smooth etc.Comment

Press the Audio button on remote & select either Sound4 (2358) or sound5 (2359). One of them might have audio description, but I haven't stayed on the channel long enough to find out.
Not sure if it may have been corrected in todays updated list (haven't had a chance to try it yet), but there's no mention of MTV+1.Comment
