    surround sound

    hi all,
not sure if this is the right section! I am planning on buying Logitech z506 and wanting to know if i can somehow get the surround sound from the box? i plug my openbox to tv which is LG LH4000 via hdmi. I have read i will only get sound from 3 speakers if i plug the speakers in the 3.5mm jack on tv so is it possible to get it hooked up to the openbox and tv somehow? am i making sense

You will need either an optical audio cable from tv to surround sound or both tv and surround sound system will need to ARC compatible (audio return capable) arc just means the hdmi cable can send whatever audio is being played through tv to surround sound. Both of these methods allow all sound that would normally come through tv speakers come through surround sound multi channel. You will still only get true 5.1 if that is what is being broadcast (only hd channels are capable, and dvd/bluray) however the surround sound system will be able to output any input format through all six speakers under a multi channel option simulating full surround.

You dont need an optical port on your speakers for it to work mate.Like HH said as long as your tv has audio out you just connect the lead to 1 of your inputs on your Logitech z50. HDMI lead form OB to TV you should be good to go it works for me................

Yes HDMI from box to TV and any surround sound equipment connected to TV should pick it up.

Worked every time I've connected a box to a surround s equiped tv.

Ah right thanks for clearing that up. Have you got same speakers? so all 5 speakers will work and give 5.1 surround?(on HD channels)
