looks like s11 model, but is this model compatible with other openbox software,i personally would not take a chance until tested image software has been verified as 100%,just my opinion, then again could be a re-badged s11,my real opinion its a con,s11 is great,s12 is crap,so why miss s13,s14,s15,suddenly s16 is available with very little info on fleebay, when i purchased my s11 it had a very detailed list of what the stb could do, bid at your own risk if so,i will give it a miss

You can record free channels if you want to test the quality???..

Though its useless if you can not get the other channels to work!!!!

I agree with you. Bought a S16 a couple of weeks back and my verdict is the S11 is the best in the Openbox series. Up to now I could get the S16 to work even after getting a replacement. The S16 initially tuned to the satellite channels and subsequently the channels disappeared. Then "LnbP" is displayed displayed on the LED panel. Aftr hours spent trying to figure out whats wrong I just gave up and hooked the S11 back on without any problems. Anyone here with the S16 operating manual? Or any S16 experts that could help me out. Best regards and thank you.

Have been trying out the S16 openbox here in New Zealand and its experiencing some weird issues between different satellites especially changing channels between Vertical and Horizontal selections. One would loose signal altogether and is only rectified by powering off and back on again. Firmware certainly needs a bit of work in this area. Besides these problems, it holds promise as far better in picture quality compared with the S9, S10, S11, S12.

not really, since I only use my s10 for true fta and it doesn't record hd without burping.
sounds like the s16 is the betamax of sat receivers.

Tried recent firmware in the S16 and still as bad as ever for an unfinished product. Spend time scanning what channels I can get to find Optus C1 only works on the ABC and SBS Vert polarised channels. The Hor channels which are usually stronger signals, dont even register. Every time I try a new firmware I lose the scanned Ch's as I cannot save channel lists to USB. (Nothing in the menu) Stranger than fiction is that on Satellite Optus D1, I obtain all the Vert and Hor Channels. Tried the SKYBOX F3 recently and it beats hands down All the S9, S10,S11,12 series of receivers for functionality, picture quality, excellent menus and reading cards.

dual usb ports and the firmware isn't encrypted,so theoretically you could tweak other ali 3606 based receiver firmware for it.

@ Garglo - have you had any success decoding SKyTV broadcasts on the Skybox F3? Whats the EPG like (Now/Next or full mheg)? I'm thinking about getting one of these instead of an Openbox so any thoughts you have about using this in NZ would be greatly appreciated.

                          Regards,
                          Mat

Still no Now and next. Probably the receiver that offered the most but didnt deliver on the firmware. Probably other newer models will surpass this receiver. Skybox F3 currently the best. Its the cousin of the Openbox X3 which has a very bad remote. Openbox X5 holds promise but havent received the product yet.
