    Which box to buy

    Hi All,

I am in the market for a box to use for sky etc etc

Can anyone advise what is currently the best box to purchase and will i be able to use a logitech harmony with it?

Secondly, will it support DD so i can connect to my amplifier/surround sound?

Does it have a Full EPG like Sky or is it not as superior as of yet?

    Thanks

Right first off whats your price range mate.

Different receivers have different specs and you pay for what you get so yes full EPG etc is available on some receivers and others not.

Id say a SE clone at that range better for EPG more simpler for EPG anyway.

Also at ?150 dont expect to have a twin tuner receiver like Sky (record 2 things at once or record something while watching another, that price range you will be able to record only so ideal for while your out or in bed.

The difference between blade 7000 and dm800se is like having to choose between a rolls or a mini, a no brainer really if your willing to put a bit of work into it, but thats my opinion.?150 clone dm800se all the way.

Totally agree with you mate I advice the SE everytime for that price range.

The word clone should not put you off the receiver has proven itself and mine has ran flawlessly from day one and it has being running practically 24/7 without being turned off or even put on standby. there is a wide range of images to suit everyones taste, its fast, it stays cool (i have never felt any heat from mine). The 800 pro was a good receiver but in my
opinion the clone market has got it spot on with the SE.

You will not be disappointed with a SE clone mate and if you need a good supplier feel free to contact me as I have provided there details to many DK members and never had anyone say they have had any issues either in quality or customer service, also all my receivers that i have purchased for otjers or myself are still going strong. That is ofcourse if you want to order direct from China but that is how you will get the best price

                  I have an Openbox S10
I have owned a dreambox before, but openbox is (almost) as good and much cheaper.

Okay cheaper yes but the guy says his price range is ?100 - ?150 and he is mentioned what he wants from a receiver a Openbox will not meet his requirements.

Sorry and '(almost)' its not even close to the SE. Over a 500s and if you are not interested in EPG then yes as it is HD the 500s is SD.

What Dreambox did you own previously?

Exactly, fair enough if your not interested in EPG and customisation etc then fair enough but personally they are never receivers I have considered and if someone offered me one for nothing I would turn it down as it would have no use to me.

Ok, ive seen alot of ppl have openboxes

question is, can i plug an external hard drive in and record one whilst watching another or is that where a dual tuner comes into it?

secondly, what are rough setup costs for motorized systems?

you can plug in an external powered hard drive, you will not be able to watch one record one unless its on the same transponder.. for instance you could record something on channel 4 and watch something on film 4 because they are on the same transponder...
self fitted motorised set up including box , your looking at around ?150 or less.. fitted, ?300 to ?400

i assume self fitted is pretty straight forward if ur technically good with tools etc.... at present i have all wiring etc in place from a current sky sub.

with a motorized setup.... whats a rough cost on subs per year and again is that able to record qholst watching another on a diff transponder.

i take it ppl in my area which ia manchester..... offer motorized installs etc
