Can I brick skybox while loading channel list

Hi All,

Got a Skybox F3 yesterday with all the software side done and gift subscription already one it...basically a plug and play for me.

But it does not have a channel list. Planning to attempt updating it by myself today, have downloaded a channel list from one on the stickies here and the tutorial as well (havent read it yet though).

My question is that does updating the channel list have anything to do with messing the firmware of the box...is there a chance I might brick the box if I made a mistake..??

Its always possible to brick it when messing with the software, thats why before you even attempt anything you should do a full system dump to a usb stick first, then if it goes wrong you can recover it back to how it was..

thanks for the tip...i tried looking but couldnt find a tut for taking system dump on usb...could you pls tell how to or post a link for it..cheers

No tutorial needed really as its a pretty straight forward task.. Have a look around in the menu, when you find it you'll see its self explanatory..

Is the box supposed to be connected to the internet while doing it..?? as there is only 1 usb port on the box which I am using for WIFI..and in order to connect the usb I will have to take it out....if needed i can connect the ethernet cable..!!

No you dont need to connect internet to be able to dump system to USB, because just as you realised it would be impossible anyway..

I would back everything up 100%,or you may lose your "gift" if disaster strikes.

when you update ch list it will say press info key if ok is beside the update then reboot if no ok there dont reboot as this might brick box just go back and do it again even try another usb as this can also be the problem

Had a go at it...formatted a USB to fat32 and took the dump for .abs likes and also mics files...ticked green all that that was there..!! now those files are safely tucked in my laptop.

And Updated the channe list..got the channels as per fav groups but had to change the name of groups eg..sports, kids..etc by myself as they did not change...just came as fav group 1, fav group 2..but that was not soo hard...I guess me sorted for now.
