Openbox powers off when LNB power is on

Hi,
am new to the sat scene and this is my first openbox.
My rented house has a old sky dish and when I plug in the feed to the openbox with power off its fine (but no channels). Once I turn on the power it powers off and wont restart until I remove the feed.
Does this sound like the dish/LNB to you folks?

Have you tried your box at someone elses? does it power up ok without dish connected? ie with hdmi to tv?

I have just redone all the f conxs (but couldnt see any shorts) and now the box is happy.
I think it was either a dodgy connection or just a bad tempered LNB
