    New dish or LNB?

I have an Openbox S11 and struggle to receive vertical channels when I have other receivers on which use the same dish. I have a standard sky dish and an octo LNB. 7 of the 8 are in use including a Sky+ HD. If I switch the Sky+ HD box off, I get all the channels fine (Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Premier HD etc). If it is on, then I lose these and can get only the horizontal channels. As soon as the Sky box is switched off, the signal strength jumps from around 20% to 80%.

I have been told that I need a round style dish (I have the sort that is larger horizontally). I have also been told that I need a octo LNB will fix the issue.

Is this a problem just associated with the Openbox? I am considering getting a Dreambox 800HD, VU Uno or VU Duo in the near future, would one of these new box still have the same issue?

I will be getting rid of the Sky box in October, when my upgrade contract expires.

I cannot see this being the box or the dish

there is nothing wrong with using the oval dishes and an octo lnb

obviously you are getting interference from the plus box with the others, this may be a simple lnb change, or maybe if you swapped the sly plus to 2 different outlets it may cure it

I would say no box causes that issue so it makes no difference which box you attach, a fault is a fault no matter how you try to sway it

all the boxes should work independently of each other and neither should interfere with another on that lnb

there is a possibility its a wiring fault causing the issue so checkl all the coax cables and connections especially the F connectors

swapping the octo would help to narrow it down as you wont get the same fault on 2 lnb,s so it would either cure it or it wont cure it, in which case it would be something else

clearly you have a fault, but swapping the dish or boxes wont cure it

Yep the Zinwell branded ones in particular, also the Zinwell branded octo's may cause problems too.

          Hi

Sounds most likely to be the lnb. I fitted zinwell quad at a m8s and he is experiencing similar probs. Strange thing is its fine sometimes and at other times wont work.

Sometimes after 5 mins stop working and sometimes works for hours.

          Regards

I dont know if this helps or not but I remember reading a few years ago that there is a problem with some LNB's and its outputs, whereby you can only use certain outputs for a particular box, ie 1+2 same box or 1+3 same box which would leave 3+4 for another and 2+4 for another box etc or they wouldnt supply the right output and you would get similar problems to what you are experiencing so I guess unless they have solved this then that may be the cause of the problem. If you have 7 boxes and a double connection box then that would also cause the same problem. Which would suggest the same result as the others have said about changing the LNB for a newer one or one which doesnt have this issue. But then like I say that was quite a few years ago now so maybe its this and maybe its not.

Thanks for your replies terminator and bloodscrap I have ordered a black ultra quad hopefully this will resolve the issue. Openbox works fine when S*y boxes disconnected.

Definitely is over kill but if it resolves my problem with putting an openbox on the same lnb as a Sky box and not losing the HD channels then all will be worth it. Wasted too much time on this issue if it doesn't work then the Sky box is going out the window.

That was not my point the sky dish is as you can see more of an egg shape compared to conventional dishes which are oval. My point being the Sky LNB Feedhorns are shaped for there dish only which maximises the surface area of the dish. Putting an LNB that is meant for an Oval offset dish onto a non standard dish will not see all of the surface area, In affect meaning that your 43cm sky dish will infact become more of a 30cm dish due to the LNB.

You would be better getting a TD54 and putting the Quad Black ultra on that.

I wasn't aware of that Digicon looks like I will have to get a new dish as well, the joys. Thanks for your help.

For information regarding my problems with HD channels on 28 east I eventually purchased a Zinwell Sky Quad low power lnb and all channels are OK.
