    SkyBox F3 Users

    Hi:

How you guys doing. Just wanted to know which FW you are running on the F3. If there are any bugs on that FW etc.

I read that the latest official F3 FW has a few bugs and that the scooby FW is the direction to go.

Anyone want to confirm which FW is the way to go: Just got back into the scene after a long long break and thought best way to find out which is the best FW is to simply ask other users.

    Thanks =)

Bugs? What bugs? Where did you read about these bugs? What do these bugs prevent the box from doing correctly? Im using the FW it originally came supplied with, I see no bugs, it works fine... Why do people feel the need to faff about flashing firmware as soon as they get these boxes? Simply put a channel list on (if you're too lazy to scan and sort yourself) then set the settings, and watch TV, its all it needs.....

Think you're being a bit hard on Strike mate there are bugs in f3
the most prominent being the Wifi connection issue no firmware has successfully addressed the f3 dropping it's connection
at will without warning (hard wire may not always be viable). There is no definitive reason or solution for this though many theories have been offered they remain just that theories. Then there have been many cases of f3 and moreso m3 randomly rebooting or doing so when subtitle button pressed you could blame this on reflashing but I experienced this using factory firmware remedied by re flashing box.Scooby snacks is factory based firmware with some tweaks.'We must remember f3 isn't made in single factory or indeed by a single manufacturer.so everyone may or may not experience issues.Isn't experimentation a backbone of this hobby just saying cut him a bit of slack if he wants to expand his knowledge

Didnt mean to sound harsh. My point is that a lot of people seem to be concerned with flashing their boxes the minute they get them, rather than use the box and see if it actually has any issues, and then if there is an issue proceed to investigate if there's a fw update to fix their issue.. Their box could actually be perfectly fine straight out of the box with its factory firmware.. Too many people flash their boxes without any reason or knowledge as to why they're actually doing it, why? And some when doing so introduce problems, like wiping out their "gifts" or "own personal sat list", or worse still, the wrong firmware altogether creating a brick...

The OP has not indicated any problems he is having with his box, so why the need to update firmware?

          Hi Marty
Well said I to have the F3 and issues with wifi and the said special dongle and the only way I could sort it was by Scooby Snax, and even then too unreliable to watch decent tv... So homeplugs are used cost as much as the box but being mobility challenged I wasn't able to scrabble round the loft space to run cable..
I would think that the previous reply would put any beginner to the hobby off from posting for help again..I know that a lot of what might seem stupid question too the more experienced user but beginners need to learn..
          Regards grousebeater

Its not really a "hobby" box is it, its a basic simplistic domestic satellite TV set top box, its not like it requires tinkering and fettling like a Dreambox... The OP didnt specify any problem with his box. You could all go ahead and suggest a specific firmware for him to use, but for what gain? Again I say, you dont know if the OP even has an issue to resolve...

The best approach with these boxes is just use them, and only try and fix a problem if you actually have one, not to go messing about loading different firmwares just because somebody on a forum told you its better, especially when they dont even know what firmware you have or if you even have any issue to rectify...

I have just got a F3 after years of having starviews.

Have no idea what firmware is on it, whatever it came with, all i done was learn how to put a gift on and a channel list and it has worked perfect ever since so will be leaving well alone until something goes wrong.

One thing i learnt from having a starview, never change firmware unless you really need to!!

I just downloaded the latest firmware from the skybox.cc site (6 sept 2012). It changed all my sat's to parts of the sky I am nowhere near! Now need a Europe TP_Progs.dbs - Yes I thought the Lan tool had backed it up, but somehow managed to loose them all.

Managed to download from this site a TP_Progs based on Sky with European Sats - so up and working. The file seems a bit dated has anyone posted a more updated Sky or Freesat version? Has anyone tried editing the dbs file on a Computer?

well since the subtitle dont work. Pressing the button makes the box reboot then of course I have to look for a new FW.

I never asked how to use the box but rather which FW are you on...

Did exactly that chaps. Got the box and thankfully read nibblitz' post and stuck with the box as is. Chose the satellites and ran a scan. Got all the channels and edited the favourites to create my own list. Job done. Easy as 1-2-3. Don't mess with things unless you are an expert..... hope it helps.
