Skybox F3 - Review so far

Ok so I made the move to HD following a blissful relationship with my trusty old DM500s.

3 days in and after initial setup teething problems im up and running and using the box as normal.

My first impressions on the F3 are the HD picture is fantastic, it is on par with any HD receiver ive seen in action thus far. SD quality is hit and miss on some channels and compared to my DM500 a bit dissapointing, not all channels are broadcast as HD so this is a downside on this box.

My second gripe is the remote, its delay is frustrating, unless im just impatient. Channel hopping can be a pain as you cannot work in a sky format ( going left or right ) of seeing whats on the next channels without actually turning over to that channel.

The EPG is now and next only as we all know, but I find it not updating on the channels unless you select the channel first from the epg menu.

Channel lists and bouquets I havent even attempted yet, I not only have sky uk but Thor 1w to organise so I will let you know how that goes once I red how to actuallz do it right!

Overall its a good box for what it does and that is HD, but I feel its not user friendly and can be frustrating if you like a quick responding receiver.

    Good Evening.....

    Hope All is well.

I also bought this masterpiece today about 18 hrs ago.

After fidelling up a lot with settings, I would give 7 out of 10 for this upgrade.

    HD.... Best improvement.
Not having Similar SKY List - Negative
Remote - Requires lot of improvement
USB slot should have been on the side so the flip cover remains safe.
    UI Interface is quite easy.
    Delays are still a pain.

I m into this hope that would be sorted in the next couple of months when they update the firmware.

    Thanks
    Aman

as for the delay in your remote
go to menu and make sure your video resolution
is at 1080-50 and your remote will be a bit quicker
      at changing channels

      HAD THE PARTY LOL

Just rigged up my F3 works a treat for a cheapy HD box.. Great HD pictures & SD isnt bad either.
This is my first sat box apart from s-y..
Im happy with its capabilities for now.
I have not encountered any delays or problems with the remote or display.
Yeah EPG could be improved upon!!
Records onto external usb drive perfectly.

I am looking to upgrade to a VU+ multi tuner unit so as to record something on another channel..

Good luck with your F3s guys

A good box for under ?50 a few improvements i would suggest are mainly f/w related, but design wise as someone else said usb port should be at rear or side or maybe have 2. f/w wise i dont like how you have to exit from 1 fav group and press the fav button again to select another, should be able to browse through open groups a simple tweak i would imagine needed for this.

It is quite an easy modification to put a USB at the rear of the F3 (i did it last night). There is not much room on the rear face to put a new hole for the female USB, so i removed the RS232 socket as i will not be using it. If a tutorial is requested, i will do one.
