    Power issues

Can anyone clear what the following means on the back off my openbox my input socket has underneath it the following

    Lnb in 13/18v
    500ma max

i'm convinced that this is causing me my problems trying to move my motorised dish i have a 1.2 diseq motor could this be too power for the open box????

    just found this

    "
DiSEqC relies only upon a coaxial cable to transmit both bidirectional data/signals and power. DiSEqC is commonly used to control switches and motors, and is more flexible than 13/18 volt and 22 kHz tone or ToneBurst/MiniDiSEqC techniques. DiSEqC is also compatible with the actuators used to rotate large C band dishes if used with a DiSEqC positioner. DiSEqC uses a pulsed (tone-burst) 22 kHz sine-wave at 0.65 V (? 0.25 V)[2] peak to peak.
The "Di" (digital) part of the name refers to the digital nature of the signals used by the protocol and does not imply anything about the transmission that the dish is used to receive; DiSEqC may be used with both digital or analogue satellite systems."

does that mean that my open box want be able to cope with the power for the motor??

If this is the case is the a power reducer/amplifier that you can get that will help fix this problem??

Openbox/Skybox receivers should have no problem powering dish motors, they're meant to be able to do so...

The numbers mean your connected motor must not be one that draws more than 500ma when operating, I doubt your motor does, most motors are between 200 to 400ma..

Maybe your box is just a crap/faulty one.

Yeah this could be the case, which is a gutter as if known was faulty could have sent it back but i know that the shop will accept the box back but i had to pay the postage arggh

I assume that it was a motor issue as it just starts rebooting and when read that on the back off the box i put 2 n 2 together etc.

Oh well i'll just have to keep this on my static dish now then, looks like i'm gonna have to find a cheap receiver that will drive the dish (cheap and cheerful) suggestions welcome

Yeah i looked into this, think the open box i got is a smaller box m3, for me though the fact that i find ithe skybox an openbox brand is off putting for me because i'll be same boat as am now. for ?50 worth just investing maybe to learn a new receiver

There are no separate wires for the motor, the power goes through the sat cable...

existing sat cable from F3 to motor, then a short piece of sat cable from motor to LNB.

Have used an S10 and now an X3 to drive a Dark Motor with no probs, both of which are small boxes.
Don't think it's the physical size of these boxes that make any difference, as the power specs through the range are much the same as the one you have there.

no mate i was a tm500s user and a mate put me onto the open box s11, which runs perfect on my static dish but when add to my motorised seems to just crash at the move dish screen, definately a **** boxed but not paying the ?20 to shop to send it back. i got another shop near me that reckons they can fix it again at a cost i dont think they can so rather than a sting in pocket i'll just leave it connected to static dish

Know what you mean, don't want to be throwing money at it.

One other thing to try maybe...
have you got a hard drive or anything else connected for recording?. If so, remove it to take the extra load off the box, and try it again.

If it were mine, I'd have the cover off to check for bulging capacitors on the power supply. If that did turn out to be the prob, it's cheap to fix.
