the f5 skybox all have abug in them , do not buy. you will have problems with them when you scan for sky uk, you will lose over 40 channels, when scaning your unit will fail on 19, 34. and 85, then it will reboot. will show you sky uk, but missing channels, if you load channel listings by usb. once loaded, you will see when you click on them. it will say ( No Single. Scramble ) There is a big problem with these boxes, ive scan them on hotbird and still problem on scaning fail 19, 34 84, just look at other theads about these boxes.

Well i bought an x3 some months back for a friend after some investigatory homework with good advice from here and elsewhere and it has been fine..does the job basically but i have another friend wanting one now and it seems the f5 which caught my eye should be given a wide berth as there is reports of the remote problems everywhere...i also see there is a new x5 model out now with a usb port at the back too...i,m assuming its similar to the x3?

        Thanks

I have set up 5/6 Skybox F5's and have experienced no problems with missing channels. When a user goes from a FTA channel to a premium channel the box reports scrambled after x amount of seconds the channels then work fine.

Can you actually tell me which channels can't be viewed.

The quality of picture is noticeably a lot better than the Openbox S11 and Skybox F3.

One massive problem is the remote it's $hit compared to the Openbox S11. I have been looking at an IR remote extender they start at ?3.57 on
ebay from China. Note I have not tested this out.

you are bound to get slight delay cause you are crossing from un-encrypted channs to encrypted channs. the amount of delay depends on ping times of the network. and true the remotes are rubbish

i know for a fact its the f5 boxes not the lnbs(some peps been blaiming lnbs) i had two f5s set up(different lnb feeds) and when they were both switched on one would lose some channs through no signal. i checked through the transponder list half of them were no signal! with both boxes switched on. i switched one off and hey how all signals back. i tried the same test with two blade boxes with no problem at all no signal loss on both. so its not lnb issues its some dodgey f5 boxes going around. not all f5s do it because i also tried a seperate pair of f5s from different supplier with no issues at all!!! it also does it if you have a bad f5 connected and any other satbox say a sky+ box. thats the facts!

Could it be the same problem as the openboxes, that is they are outputting a greater voltage therefore the lnb's have trouble coping with it especially if it is a sly install of the dish which worked on low voltage?

I've now bought my own F5 this works fine (I have set-up around 7 boxes which have all worked as expected). I can't find any missing channels. But of course I don't watch every single channel. The one's I watch / require all work fine.

I have bought an USB IR Remote Extender of Fleabay trying to set it up. I know not a great deal to set up. Initial attempts seem to have failed. Will report back if I get it to work properly!

I bought an f5 for a m8 today and I'm so pleased with it I've decided to keep it. Had no probs with any sats and the pq is excellent. The remote is garbage though and the epg is pants. Have to say for less that 50 quid it's a bargain - crossed toes and fingers here as only had it working 1 day.!It's also a pity the usual E2 programs obviously don't work as it's not Linux but I still think as a basic 28e HD receiver it's a good buy.

For the money it is a great basic HD box, problem is that some people expect too much from it

Agreed as i have been telling people since the x3 model that they are ok and its a box that basically does the job...

has anyone found a supplier that sells the f5 with no remote problems as i,m getting conflicting views...some say crap and some say there is no remote problem..

If anyone has an f5 with no remote problems could you pm me a link please...otherwise i,ll get another x3 for my friend...

                              thanks
