skybox F3: USB too low to action

    Hi all,

When attempting to record to USB on my SKYBOX F3 all I get is "USB too low to action" - the speed of the Flash drives and external drives shouldn't be a problem - one is an external hardrive that is powered via the plug and writes at 33 MB a second, I have tried 3 external flash drives and none of them will record (files play fine tho using media player function - both MKV and xVid etc).

I have the latest firmware installed from yojiatech. Can anyone shed any light? Other than this the box is great.

    Many thanks and Merry Xmas,

Recording HD programs requires the storage device to have fast enough write speeds... Cheap memory sticks have much slower write speeds than they do read speeds, so only the more expensive sticks would ever have fast enough write speeds.. Have you tested the actual true write speed of your memory sticks and hard disk on your PC... Manufacturers specifications are usually far from real world specification...

go with a usb3.0 external powered case and the hardrive of your choice.
Makes no sense since the ports are usb2.0 but it was the only thing that worked for me.

i think it's probably due to the firmware being a problem rather than speeds. many of the slower flash drives could be used to record on many other receivers, like duo, dm800, blade, spiderbox etc

but occasionaly the openbox throws this in, i say occasionaly because at times it records fine using these slower usb sticks.

          Hi,

I have tested the external HDD that I tried - it writes at 30 ish mb per second - that was copying over a 40gb bluray RIP.

I agree with redondo - I have used all of the media previously on a DM800 and a blade no problem. Plus on a couple of occasions I have got it to record both SD and HD channels but it has been rare.

Can anybody recommend a better firmware than the official one from yojiatech?

i believe maybe certain brand USBs may work unless its only usb2.0 not usb3.0
