    Problems with IP addresses

    Hi there,

Have had this problem with my skybox f3 and ip settings before.

Unfortunately a friend of mine now has the same problem, he has given me these details

    DHCP On

    IP 192.168.001.009
    Subnet 255.255..255.000
    Gateway 192.168.001.001
    DNS (Pref) 192.168.001.001

He has told me he has tried it elsewhere and it works.

Unfortunately I am not sure on IP addys and the like, so thought I would stick a post up on here.

    Thanks in advance !!!!

he's using wired straight to the modem/router (bt infinity).

here's the settings for his router (just gave them to me)

          ip 192.168.001.064
          sub 255.255.255.000
          gate 192.168.001.254
          dns 192.168.001.254

the settings for his f3 are above and his dhcp is on.

If its BT router the ip of the router should be 192.168.001.254 and you should be able to connect to it from your browser.

i had similar prob a while back. I had connected so manythings in the past that it was dishing out ips ending in the 240s so I did a default setting of the router and everything was fine.

Not just rebooting but Factory Resetting so you have to enter your security password again which should be on the little brick in the top of the router.

I'm sure after a reset it will connect.

Once DHCP is activated on the OpenBox and providing no port forward or specific IP address is being allocated instead of dynamic/DHCP at the router end then I can't see this being a problem with IP settings!

For example, with DHCP activated (and the OpenBox restarted after activating DHCP - just in case) then what happens is that the OpenBox asks your router for an IP address which if the router is setup to allow dynamic DHCP then the router will allocate an IP address for the OpenBox to use automatically.

Do you know there is nothing wrong with the OpenBox? If it's at all possible (and assuming it hasn't been tried) can you use your OpenBox (known to work fine) in replace of his one?

Thanks for all your help guys, I've concluded through all the responses that it's something his end - either with the cable or the router, as it worked at mine and another guy's place.

Let him sort it out !!! LOL !!!!
