any should work but don't always.
If you are going to do a lot of hd recording go with a drive in a usb3.0 case.
For sd recording you can get by with a usb2.0 case.
Avoid usb powered drives and get a case with external power supply.

There is no need to unnecessarily spend extra money for a USB3 device, Skybox/Openbox only have USB2 ports, just go with any USB2 external drive..

Many 2.5" USB powered portable drives work fine, Ive got several different branded USB powered portables and a few cheapo ching wong branded USB powered cases, I have no problem with any, but to be totally sure it'll work for you then using a PSU powered external hard disk is probably the best..

Slugworth, yes I know you had problems getting your hard disks to work on your box and to use a USB3 enclosure was your solution, but the problem you had with with your specific USB2 enclosures is not common for others using USB2 drives. Skybox/Openbox receivers only have a USB2 port, USB2 drives seem to work fine for everybody else...

it like giving hyperactive kids speed to calm them down, makes no sense, yet it works.
Usb3.0 only failed me once recording a wildfeed with a very high symbol rate, the s10 was recording at a rate of 4.8gig per 15 minutes.I just hate to see people buying many hardrives and cases like I did.Like mentioned many times before I spent more money on drives and usb2.0 cases than I did for the receiver itself.I got my usb3.0 case from a second hand store for $8 so the price was actually the cheapest of all the cases.
