    Skybox f3 Alternative remotes/ adding a box

    Hello all

I was just wondering, is it possible to get a skybox f3 remote that is more responsive that then current remote?

Also, I have just bought a 2nd box and I have a sky minidish, to add a new standalone box where I can watch different channels will I need to change the LNB to a double - will it effect the signal I am currently getting?

Yea, you could try any of the earlier model Openbox Remotes (S9, S10, S11) Im sure they're all compatible, but poor remote response is not a common complaint, maybe you just have a duff remote or a badly seated IR receiver in your box..

If you change your single LNB to a dual output LNB to feed 2 boxes it will not effect signal quality, but you might aswell fit a quad LNB, price difference is nothing and then you'll have spare outlets for potential future use...

Non way of getting EPG working on this box I'm afraid, the remote on open box x3 &x5 is a lot better then the skybox quicker response,

I've also found using better batteries helps on the f3 remote

i ended up removing the piece of plastic at the front of the box where the channel numbers are

cut a small hole in the plastic where the ir sensor is and placed it back in, remote now works without having to aim directly at the sensor, not particulary pretty but it works

I replaced my F5 remote with a Logitec Harmony 525 (was using it on the TV anyway), Much better response and I don't have to sit right on top of the box for it to pick up the remote.

No EPG but if you load the channel list sorted into Sly's numbers, then keep sly channel guide on my laptop (Channel Numbers then corrispond).

Ive tried adding a HDD to this box and also a Discq dish control but for some reason its settings are all LOCKED and you require a four digit pin this is not issued by the seller. Anyway of getting the pin from the RS232 or is it impossible. Regards.

Well, your seller is an absolute arse then if he wont tell you what its been locked down with, they dont leave the factory like that..

                    Try all the usual suspects, 0000, 1234, 1111, 6666, 8888 etc

The other way to unlock the box would be to flash it via rs232, which will probably also erase any custom setup & settings on it...

I would pressure your seller, with it locked down you cant use the box properly, its almost like a faulty box.... What are you going to do when channel frequencies change? And what if you wanted to get other satellites, the box is designed for that, but you cant because its locked down.. I wouldnt accept having a box in a locked out condition, nor should you...

i use one of these and now i can point the remote anywhere in the room and it works fine on my skybox f5
it took 2 weeks for it to be delivered from china
i,m gona change the ir led to a higher power one in the remote and see if that makes things better also
but i will note that its not a problem with the remote that gives us all this trouble
its more to do with a problem with the ir senser in the f5 box , but i dont fancy cutting holes in the front of the box to fix it
